Chapter 47: Meeting Her Ex-Husband
Chapter 47: Meeting Her Ex-Husband
Housekeeper Win could barely contain her emotions as she took Pete into her care, feeling an aching twinge at the thought of parting with Andrea.
"Ma'am Andrea, please don't worry," she assured with haste, her voice tinged with affection, "I'll take good care of Pete. He's like a son to me."
Understanding and gratitude filled Andrea; over the years, Housekeeper Win had become like a mother to her. With precise instructions from Win, the maids quickly loaded Andrea's two suitcases into the trunk of the waiting car.
As Andrea emerged from the house, she approached Tony and Tate, who were deep in conversation. Tate's face broke into a smile when he saw Andrea approaching. "Miss Andrea," he greeted with evident joy.
"You're here to see me off, Tate?" Andrea asked, her own smile mirroring his.
"Absolutely," Tate replied, a sense of urgency in his voice. "When I learned you were heading back to Vegas, I had to come and say goodbye in person."
Andrea's smile widened; Tate and Tony had become like older brothers to her over time.
She then turned the conversation to a more somber topic. "Any news from the investigation into my father's killers?" Andrea asked. For years, she had been relentlessly pursuing the shadowy organization responsible for her father's murder, but every effort seemed futile, leading her in circles toward dead ends.
Tate shook his head, his expression somber. "There's nothing new to report," he admitted. Despite employing private investigators, working with Interpol, and deploying undercover agents, the truth remained elusive. The dead bodies found the day Mr. Singers died had been mysteriously removed before they could be examined, and the organization remained shrouded in secrecy.
Andrea's expression hardened with resolve. "Keep looking," she insisted. "I'm not ready to give up."
Both Tate and Tony nodded in silent agreement, sharing Andrea's determination. The death of Mr. Singers, whom they had come to regard as a father figure, only fueled their commitment.
Just then, Pete's young voice broke through the somber moment as he ran towards them. "Uncle Tate!" he called out excitedly.
Tate's face lit up with delight at the sight of the young boy. Scooping Pete up into his arms, he playfully remarked, "Little Pete, you've gotten a bit taller."
Pete's face scrunched up in mock offense. "Uncle Tate, I'm not little," he protested. "In ten years, I'll be taller than you, and look- I've even got muscles!" He puffed out his chest. "Humph! I'll beat you up if you call me little again in the future!"
Tate burst into laughter at Pete's defiant declaration, and soon they were both engulfed in giggles.
Andrea checked her wristwatch and realised it was time to leave, they boarded the cars and drove to the airport.
As they alighted from their cars, another car pulled up; and out stepped Agatha.
Pete's face immediately brightened when he saw Agatha, and he dashed toward her, his voice filled with excitement, "Aunty Agatha!"
A gentle smile spread across Andrea's face. She hadn't expected Agatha to make it to the airport to see her off, especially with the critical issues she'd been handling at the company.
Agatha picked up Pete and approached Andrea, standing beside Tony, who gave Agatha a look that was hard to decipher.
"Andrea, did you really think you could leave without a proper goodbye from me?" Agatha said with a hint of annoyance.
Andrea's smile widened. "Thank you for being here. I was afraid you'd be too caught up with work."
"Nothing could keep me from seeing you off," Agatha responded firmly.
They exchanged a few more words before Andrea gathered her luggage to board the private jet. But Pete, wriggling out of Agatha's arms, clung to Andrea's leg, his eyes welling up with tears.
"Mommy, are you going to leave me? Don't you love Pete anymore?" he asked, his lower lip quivering
Andrea stroked his hair with affection and explained with patience, "Mommy has to go so she can find you a daddy. Don't you want a daddy?"
Pete's expression transformed into one of excitement. "Yes, Mommy! I want a daddy, a handsome daddy!"
Satisfied, Andrea replied, "I promise I'll find you the most handsome daddy. But I need you to let go so Mommy can go and find him, okay?"
Pete let go of her leg, albeit reluctantly. Andrea kissed his forehead and reassured him, "You'll come to join me soon."
After settling Pete's concerns, she boarded the jet, which soon took off down the runway.
Two hours later, Andrea Singers arrived at the Vegas airport. Stepping into the arrival area, she took a deep breath, a nostalgic expression crossing her face.
"I'm back," she whispered to herself, her expression determined.
Scanning the crowd and finding no familiar faces to greet her, she felt a twinge of disappointment. But then, a chauffeur caught her eye, and her surprise was evident. It was Valentine Anderson-her proud ex-husband-dressed in a chauffeur's attire.
Valentine was the last person she expected to see in such a role, knowing his pride and his refusal to work for anyone else, preferring to start his own business after graduation.
Seeing him now, ready to serve her, was astonishing.
"Mrs. Andrea Singers, welcome to Vegas City. I am your chauffeur," Valentine said, recovering his professional demeanor after a brief lapse, struck by Andreas beauty.
A smile played on Andrea's lips, a sense of satisfaction bubbling within her. She had once wanted to humble him, and now it seemed as though fate had done it for her.
"Please take care of the luggage," she directed, heading towards the waiting limousine.
Valentine promptly loaded her suitcases into the trunk and held the door open for her. Once she was settled inside, he took the driver's seat and they left the airport behind them.
