On the Edge
On the Edge
The cliffs loomed ahead, jagged and imposing, their edges illuminated by the pale glow of the moon. The waves below crashed against the rocks, their rhythmic roar a strange comfort in the otherwise quiet night.
I stood at the edge, the wind whipping through my hair and stinging my tear-streaked cheeks. My body trembled, not from the cold but from the weight of everything I’d endured.
Years of ridicule, of being the pack’s outcast, of dreaming that one day it would all change. And tonight? Tonight was supposed to be the beginning of my new life. Instead, it had been ripped away in front of everyone I’d ever known.
I stared down at the dark, churning waters below. It would be so easy to take one step forward and let it all end.
They wouldn’t miss you.
The thought crept into my mind like poison, feeding on my pain and despair. Maybe Jessica was right. Maybe the Moon Goddess had skipped me for a reason. Maybe I didn’t belong here at all.
My toes inched closer to the edge, pebbles tumbling into the abyss below. I closed my eyes, the sound of the waves growing louder.
And then, a low, menacing growl cut through the air.
I froze, my heart leaping into my throat as I turned. Emerging from the shadows was a figure unlike any I’d ever seen. He was tall and broad, his golden eyes glowing with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine. His presence was commanding, almost otherworldly, and even in the darkness, I could see the sharp angles of his jaw and the taut strength in his frame.
“Don’t do it,” he said, his voice low and commanding. It wasn’t a plea; it was an order.
I staggered back a step, my mind spinning. “W-who are you? And… why do you even care?”
He stepped closer, his golden gaze locking onto mine. There was something in his eyes—something fierce and unyielding.
“Because you’re mine,” he replied, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
My breath caught in my throat. His words shouldn’t have made sense, but there was a pull between us, a connection I couldn’t explain. My wolf stirred for the first time, not with Jason, but with him.
I took a shaky step back. “You’re joking.”
His lips twitched into a faint smile, though his expression remained serious. “I never joke.”
My body froze, torn between disbelief and the strange, magnetic pull I felt toward him. Who was this man—and why did his presence feel like destiny?
