Chapter 630: This Isn’t Over
Chapter 630: This Isn’t Over
Blake had come prepared, armed with evidence he could use to clear himself at any time.
“I have proof. The whole scheme was their idea. I have the document they gave me with the plan, and I also have the audio recordings.”
“Where are the documents and recordings? Who else was involved?” The officer’s eyes locked on him, sharp and unyielding, trained to catch even the smallest lie.
Following the trail revealed in the interrogation, the police quickly found the evidence Blake had set aside.
Every piece pointed straight at Rupert. And under Blake’s careful setup, he shifted himself from an accomplice to a victim forced into the plan.
“Officer, they forced me into this. I had no choice,” Blake said, his face contorted with helplessness, his eyes glistening with unshed tears. “I’m a victim too. I demand to see my lawyer.”
Meanwhile, Bianca and Dave had finished giving their statements. Brenda had not yet come out, but Catherine had been waiting by the door for a while.
“Mr. Evans, I truly appreciate your help. If not for you, Brenda might still be trapped in that cellar,” Catherine said.
“It was nothing. If anything, your timely arrival disrupted their plan.” Dave straightened and offered her a firm handshake. “While you’re in Edenfield, don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.”
“How is Brenda doing? I never imagined she’d go through something like this,” Bianca asked softly. When they arrived earlier, Brenda had looked fragile and completely drained.
“She should be out soon. What she went through was terrible, but she’s strong; she’ll recover quickly.” Catherine gave a reassuring smile before looking at Bianca.
“Perhaps you didn’t know, but Brenda originally came to Edenfield to discuss a collaboration with Emerald Artists Agency.”
Bianca’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really?”
“Yes. She told me about it before she left.”
As they spoke, Blake stepped out of the interrogation room. His eyes sharpened, filled with venom as he stared at Dave and the others standing nearby.
“Let’s go. From here on, say nothing. I’ll handle everything,” his lawyer instructed.
“This isn’t over.” Blake gave a curt nod, his face cold as he followed in silence.
He had expected the chance of failure and prepared a backup plan. Without it, no amount of money could have bought his bail. His mistrust of Ashley had driven him to be cautious. Their partnership was never built on trust, only on using each other.
Back then, Blake had already thought about the possibility of Rupert shifting all the blame onto him if things went wrong. And he refused to be anyone’s scapegoat.
When Blake walked past, Bianca turned around. They stared at each other for a brief moment, holding back unreadable thoughts neither was willing to let out.
“Why did he just walk out like that?” Catherine’s blue eyes widened in disbelief.
A police officer stepped forward to explain. Since there was no solid evidence directly tying Blake to the kidnapping, he was legally allowed bail.
No one had expected this turn, not even Brenda, who had just come out.
“I can’t believe it. How could he just walk away like that?” Brenda’s face tightened, frustration boiling inside her. It had been a long time since she had felt this level of anxiety.
At that moment, another officer came out of the interrogation room and addressed them. “He’s only out on bail. That doesn’t mean he’s cleared. The real kidnapper has fled, and the police are pursuing them. Right now, Rupert is our prime suspect.”
The officer paused, then added with a faint smile, “But there’s good news, the fake ‘Brenda’ didn’t get away. Someone caught her and brought her straight to a police car. She’ll be here soon.”
Hearing this, Dave turned to Brenda, his eyes carrying an apology. “I’m truly sorry you were dragged into this.”
Brenda already knew the truth from Michael. It was Dave’s covert investigation that led to her rescue. He had tracked down the place where she was being held, while Michael disguised himself as a cleaner and slipped into the mansion, pulling her out before it was too late.
“Mr. Evans, there’s no need to apologize. Michael already explained everything to me.”
Just then, the fake “Brenda” was escorted in by two officers.
Ashley had been caught by Wyatt and turned over to the police. Now, stripped of her arrogance, she no longer carried the confidence she once wore so easily.
Years in prison had left her with a deep fear of law enforcement, yet the last thing she expected was to come face-to-face with Bianca again.
Ashley’s eyes stared at Bianca’s, burning with anger and intensity, and she didn’t look away until the officer pulled her into the interrogation room.
That stare was sharp, unsettling, and it sent a chill through Bianca all over again.
“By the way, how long will it take to confirm that impostor’s identity? I don’t know why, but I can’t shake this feeling… Could she be someone I know?” Bianca asked.
Dave knew he had to tell Bianca the truth, but this wasn’t the right place.
He quickly arranged for Brenda and Catherine to be taken to the Edenfield Hotel, making sure they were protected.
Only after that did he return with Bianca to the Waterfront Apartments. Inside, he guided her to the sofa, his face serious.
"Bianca," he said quietly, "she’s someone you know."
Bianca froze for a second, then her eyes sharpened. She realized Dave’s bodyguards had already done their investigation.
"You already knew, didn’t you?" Bianca asked, arms crossed. Annoyance flashed in her eyes as she stepped back. "You’re keeping secrets from me now? Why didn’t you just tell me?"
Dave reached out and drew her back gently. Leaning closer, he whispered, "I wasn’t sure before. But now my team has her plastic surgery records."
His breath brushed her ear, and she pushed him away, flustered. "Just tell me already!"
Dave cleared his throat and straightened. "Do you remember Ashley?"
Bianca’s brows knit together. "Ashley? You mean... Ashley is the fake Brenda?"
"Yes," Dave confirmed, watching the shock spread across her face. "She’s actually Rupert and Stacey’s illegitimate daughter—Ashley Evans."
"What?" Bianca was stunned. The familiarity had always been there, the way Ashley and the fake Brenda carried themselves, the small habits they both showed. She had noticed it before but chose to ignore it. Now, the truth made it impossible to look away.
"Ashley... is Rupert’s daughter?" she repeated, struggling to absorb the truth.
