Chapter 493: I’ve Never Let You Down
Chapter 493: I’ve Never Let You Down
Lucas noticed Rupert's confused look and let out a scoff. "If you had really shown what you're capable of, why do you think I'm still counting on Dave? I’ve waited all these years before naming a successor to see who would stand out. But none of you did."
"Dad, I’ve worked hard all this time! I’ve never let you down!" Rupert argued.
Lucas gave him a hard stare. "The Vanguard Group is one of our top companies. But in just ten years, Dave’s Phoenix Alliance Group left it in the dust. You really think you didn't disappoint me over these years?"
"I..." Rupert couldn't respond. For a moment, he said nothing. His years of effort suddenly felt small compared to everything Dave had built.
Lucas ignored Rupert and kept talking. "Dave is sharp. He knows how important Phoenix Alliance Group is to the Evans Group, and he also knows I won’t let it fall. That’s exactly why he signed that contract—to challenge me. Looks like I need to change my approach.”
He paused, his eyes narrowing as he thought about the day’s headlines in both business and entertainment.
During the press conference Bianca held, Dave had shown up out of nowhere. He stood by her side and humiliated Natalie in front of everyone. Then he called Bianca the love of his life.
Dave was usually careful. But with Bianca, something was different.
Lucas could easily get rid of Bianca if he wanted to. But there was one thing stopping him—he had promised Dave he wouldn’t hurt her for three years. And maybe, instead of making her disappear, he could use her to his advantage.
Lucas smiled. A hint of excitement lit up in his eyes.
"You don’t need to worry about that anymore. The Evans Group has been a mess lately. Take some time to think things through." He looked at Rupert, sounding a little annoyed.
Rupert frowned. "And what about Phoenix Alliance Group? What about Dave? Are we just going to ignore them?"
"I have my own plan. You don’t need to get involved. I’m tired. You should leave now."
Rupert realized he was being dismissed. He clenched his fists, holding back his anger, then turned and walked out.
Once Lucas was alone, he picked up his phone and called Reece.
"Reece, how’s the task I gave you going?" he asked.
At the same time, Rupert walked out of the mansion, his fists clenched hard.
He knew what kind of man Dave was—cold and ruthless. If Dave ever took full control of the Evans Group, Rupert would be the first to suffer.
Rupert had spent years trying to become the next leader. There was no way he’d let someone like Dave take it from him.
Just thinking about Dave’s success made his blood boil. Rupert realized he had to do something. Dave had to be taken out of the picture.

At last, Reese’s problems were solved.
When Bianca walked into the office, everyone stood up and clapped.
"Great job, Bianca!"
"You were amazing!"
"You're my hero!"
Bianca gave them a bright smile. She waved and signaled for everyone to sit.
"Thank you all for sticking with me through everything. Your support means a lot. Tonight, dinner’s on me!"
"Awesome!"
As everyone cheered, Bianca headed into her office. She shut the door behind her and finally let out a long breath.
She dropped into her chair and rubbed her temples.
She was completely worn out.
A few moments later, Diana burst in, eyes wide with excitement. "Bianc, the phones won’t stop ringing! The partners who wanted to cut us off are now trying to come back. Some even want to raise our profit shares. They should’ve realized this sooner!"
"They’re just being opportunistic. Let them do what they want," Bianca said calmly, leaning back with her eyes half-closed.
Diana stared at her, full of curiosity. She sat down across from Bianca and grinned. "Come on, I have to know. What really happened between you and Dave?"
Bianca opened her eyes slowly. She had never planned to keep it from Diana. Even in the middle of everything, she had been waiting for the right moment to share it with her.
Now, they finally had that chance.
"Okay," Bianca said softly. She began to tell Diana everything that had happened with Dave.
Diana listened carefully and was interested in every detail.
"Sounds like he’s not all that bad," Diana said with a small smile. "As long as he treats you right and doesn’t hurt you, I’ll give him a chance. But Bianc, do you really think there’s no way for you two to get married someday?"
Bianca looked down and smiled gently. "I’m just taking it day by day. Being with him is what matters to me right now."
"That’s fair," Diana said. "But a woman’s youth doesn’t last forever. What if he changes his mind one day? What if he finds someone else and leaves you behind? You’ll be the one hurting in the end."
Bianca looked straight at Diana and said, "I’ve decided to trust him fully. Life’s too short. How many days do we really get to spend with the people we love? If he leaves one day, I’ll still stand by the choices I made today. I won’t have regrets."
Diana sat there, stunned. She didn’t know what to say.
Her thoughts drifted to her own past—to her time with Brandon.
Life really did feel like a passing moment, like morning dew that vanished too fast. Being apart from someone you love left a strange kind of emptiness.
Bianca noticed the change in her friend’s expression. "What’s on your mind?" she asked gently.
Snapping out of her thoughts, Diana gave Bianca a smile. "You’ve got a point. No one really knows what the future holds, so we should enjoy the present."
Bianca felt relieved. She was glad Diana understood.
"By the way, let’s book a table for tonight. I’m treating everyone to dinner."
"Everyone?"
"Yes. Let them all know they’re invited."
"Got it, I’ll handle it now," Diana said quickly before hurrying out of the office.
Meanwhile, Reece stayed in his seat, going over the documents Bianca had given him.
He had already collected all the signatures needed for her case. But now, there was another contract in front of him.
His eyes narrowed as he studied it carefully.
Reece picked up his phone and called Bianca.
"Miss Scott, your court date is set for this Friday. Will that work for you?"
"Yes, that’s fine."
"Great. See you then."
After ending the call, Reece let out a long breath.
Reece set the contract aside and leaned back in his chair. A storm of emotions swirled inside him.
When he first became a lawyer, he never thought he’d have to go against his own values.
The only thing that brought him peace now was the hope that once everything was over, he and Skylar could run away together.
His hands curled into fists as he reminded himself that life was all about choices. And this time, he was choosing to fight for love.
