Chapter 458: I Invited Her To Drink
Chapter 458: I Invited Her To Drink
Dave let go of him mercilessly, sending Bruno crashing face-first onto the floor.
"Who is he?" someone in the crowd muttered.
A hushed explanation followed. The person’s eyes widened in shock.
They hadn’t realized it was Dave Evans—the favored grandson of Lucas Evans and CEO of Phoenix Alliance Group.
What was he doing here?
A chill ran through the room as if a predator had just entered.
Dave’s eyes darkened as he scanned the room. He strode forward with his chilling presence. The crowd instinctively stepped aside, too afraid to make a sound.
When he reached Bianca, slumped in disarray on the sofa, his expression briefly twisted in shock.
Dave immediately removed his coat and draped it over Bianca, shielding her from prying eyes.
He gently wiped the sticky whiskey from her face, then pulled her into his arms, holding her protectively. His fists clenched and his body radiated fury.
Slowly, he turned to Bruno as his eyes were filled with murderous intent.
"What did you do to her?"
Bruno stammered and his hands trembled as he clutched his injured arm.
"I... I..." He could barely form a sentence.
Thoughts ran through his mind. Why was Dave here? And why did he care so much about Bianca?
Desperate to defend himself, he blurted out, "Mr. Evans, do you know her? What—what’s your relationship?"
A surge of whispers spread through the crowd. People around them quickly grabbed their phones to search the trending topic.
"Apparently, Bianca is Dave’s secret lover," someone near Bruno whispered. "Gossip said, he’s even willing to give up his inheritance and fiancée for her!"
Bruno’s jaw dropped. His stomach twisted into knots.
The realization hit him like a ton of bricks— Bianca was Dave’s woman.
How could he have been so blind?
If he had known it earlier, he would have never dared to lay a hand on her.
Panic gripped Bruno.
"Mr. Evans, I swear! I only invited her for a drink! She was the one who tried to seduce me! Please, you have to believe me!" His voice shook, on the verge of breaking.
Dave’s eyes darkened. "Is that so?"
With a simple glance, he signaled Wyatt.
Wyatt stepped forward and drove his foot into the back of Bruno’s knee, forcing him to the ground.
"You think you can lie to my boss? Do you have a death wish?" Wyatt growled.
Bruno stammered, "I-I… no… it's the truth…"
Wyatt scoffed. He pulled out a check and held it up for all to see.
"One million dollars. Tell the truth about what happened to Bruno and Bianca, and it’s yours."
Silence fell for a brief moment before the room erupted into chaos.
"I saw it! Bruno was forcing her to drink!" someone shouted.
"He did more than that! He tried to take her clothes off!" another voice added.
"That’s not all! He had his men tie her up!"
The crowd surged forward, each person wanting to expose Bruno’s crimes.
Bruno sputtered, his face turning red. "Lies! I never—! They’re the ones who—!" He waved frantically at the men who had helped him hold Bianca.
But his so-called allies had already turned against him.
"Don’t believe him! We have proof!" one of them shouted.
"You traitors!" Bruno roared, furious. The same men who had sided with him moments ago were now ready to sell him out for a million dollars.
After putting Bianca onto the sofa, Dave stood up.
With slow, deliberate steps, he walked toward Bruno.
"Do you know who you're messing with? I have powerful people backing me!" Bruno shouted, his face red with rage and humiliation.
Wyatt barely spared him a glance. With a swift motion, he tossed the one-million-dollar check into the crowd.
The moment it hit the floor, chaos erupted.
Like sharks scenting blood, people lunged for it, shoving and clawing at each other. The room filled with desperate cries as greed took over.
Bruno’s voice was lost in the madness. No one cared about him anymore.
He collapsed onto the floor, defeated.
Lifting his head, he saw Dave standing over him. His eyes were cold and filled with contempt—as if he were looking at nothing more than an insect.
"Mr.—Mr. Evans, please! Don’t listen to them! I swear, I didn’t do anything to Miss Scott! You have to believe me!" Bruno’s voice shook with desperation.
Gathering what little strength he had left, he tried to struggle.
Dave didn’t bother responding. His boot struck Bruno’s shoulder, flipping him over like a discarded doll.
Without sparing him another glance, Dave turned to Wyatt.
"Take him to the police station. Hand him over to Police Chief Samuel and have him investigated thoroughly. Show no mercy."
Bruno’s panic erupted into a frantic shout.
"You can’t bring me to the police station! Do you even know who’s backing me?"
Dave raised an eyebrow, his tone laced with mockery.
"Oh? Then tell me—who exactly is pulling your strings?"
Bruno, throwing caution aside, puffed out his chest and declared, "The man backing me is a powerful figure in Edenfield’s business world—Mr. Burke! Out of respect for him, you can’t just hand me over to the police!"
For years, Bruno had relied on his patron’s influence to abuse power, amass wealth through corruption, and commit countless crimes for Jalen. If the police uncovered everything, he’d be locked away for life. He couldn’t let that happen.
Jalen Burke, known as Mr. Burke, was a feared name in Edenfield’s underworld and business circles. Even the city’s elite avoided crossing him. Surely, Dave wouldn’t risk offending such a powerful man just to deal with him.
But Dave simply raised an eyebrow and turned to Wyatt.
"Since he belongs to Jalen, give him a call. Let’s see what he has to say."
"Yes, sir," Wyatt responded immediately.
Wyatt pulled out his phone, dialed a number, and put it on speaker. The room fell silent and filled with heavy tension.
A moment later, the call connected.
"Wyatt, to what do I owe the pleasure?"
Bruno stiffened. Why did Jalen sound so familiar with Dave’s man?
He had no time to think. Panic took over.
"Mr. Burke! It’s me, Bruno! They’re sending me to the police station—you have to help me!"
There was a brief pause. Then, Jalen’s voice darkened.
"Bruno?" His tone was wrapped with anxiety. "Wyatt, what’s going on?"
Wyatt held the phone casually and said in a sharp tone.
"Jalen, how do you manage your men? This one had the nerve to harass Mr. Evans’s girlfriend. Now Mr. Evans wants to hand him over to the police, but he keeps bringing up your name, asking for respect. What do you think about that?"
