Chapter 21
Chapter 21
Diego
"Leo, want to take another turn?" I ask, my voice devoid of any emotion, the calmness of it contrasting sharply with the violence unfolding here.
Andrei's eyes widen as he frantically looks between me and my Underboss. "Please don't," he pleads, fresh tears spilling down his cheeks.
I fix my gaze on him, letting the weight of silence settle between us, purposefully deepening his despair. "Are you prepared to speak?" I inquire with menace, my voice cutting through the silent tension in the room. "If not, I can continue this all night. I'm through playing games. I want answers and I want them now."
He coughs, spewing droplets of blood on the floor. "The girl you have...she was promised to Viktor. He won't stop until the contract is fulfilled."
My jaw tenses. "Contract with who?"
Suddenly, his head lolls to the side, his eyes rolling back in his head.
Fuck, he must be passing out from the pain. Or dying from blood loss. Either way, neither is happening until I get my answer.
I slap him across the face, the sharp sound reverberating off the walls. "Wake the fuck up! I didn't give you permission to die yet," I bark.
His breaths are shallow, and his chest heaves. I can sense time slipping away, the scent of iron growing heavier. If I intend to extract more information from him, it must be done now.
"Andrei, who is the contract with?" I demand, holding the blade to his throat, completely prepared to slit his fucking jugular open.
"A-Antonio," he slurs before going limp in the chair, the name hanging in the air like a haunting echo. I put two fingers to his neck, confirming what I already knew - there's no longer a pulse.
Just fucking perfect.
Disgust settles in the pit of my stomach. The pieces fall into place; Antonio had a debt with the Russians, and he used Vanessa, and possibly the sister, as collateral. I don't know what the fuck he did with my money, but obviously, he did not use it to pay off the debt.
"You went a little crazy this time, Jefe. We should've been able to keep him alive for weeks," Leo says with an exaggerated sigh.
"Yeah, we would've never gotten the piss and shit smell out of here." The stench of death is already an impossible smell to get rid of. It just gets stronger and stronger the more lives are taken down here.
Leo leans back in his chair, his expression one of casual indifference. "We've got a war on our hands now. Are these girls really worth the trouble?"
I glance at him, irritation simmering beneath the surface. "Yes. I don't care about the sister, but my pet does, so I'll continue to protect them both," I respond, my voice hard.
"How?"
There's only one option left. Our little arrangement must be extended.
I peel off the bloody gloves, the stench of iron clinging to my skin, and toss them into the trashcan by the door. They'll likely be incinerated when the cleaning crew arrives. "I'll have to publicly claim her as mine. A week from now, there will be a wedding."
I nearly burst out laughing at his bemused expression. His eyes widen, his usually stoic demeanor shattered for a moment. He blinks, trying to process the unexpected revelation. "You're going to marry her?" he chokes out.
"No one will dare fuck with the wife of Diego Reyes. I will get my sister down here, she's the only one I trust to plan this out."
Leo's mouth remains gaping open like a fish. "You really think that girl will agree to that? She hates your guts."
That's only because she's too stubborn to submit to me. Then, she would quickly realize how good life can be. But she will. I've been so busy trying to bring down my enemy that I haven't had the time to show her.
That's about to change. I can tell she needs me to take control; she's just not ready to admit it. But that's fine. As her husband, I'll make her understand.
"She has no other choice unless she actually wants to be drugged and whored out."
She could quickly find out just how cruel other men like me are. I'm a saint compared to what they'll do to her.
This isn't her fault, her dad was really a piece of shit and dragged his daughters into this. I don't know exactly what his debt was or how long he was working with Viktor behind my back. Nonetheless, using your children as collateral is the most fucked up thing you can do. Outside, of course, joining the mob and betraying the boss you know will undoubtedly destroy your entire bloodline.
I reach the steel door, swinging it open with a deliberate creak. The dim light from the corridor spills into the room, casting long shadows that dance across Leo's face.
"Have my lawyer draw up another contract. The first one is no longer applicable to our situation," I command, my tone unwavering. I throw a final glance at the dead body still strapped to the chair. "Oh, and sever his head. Have it sent to Viktor's doorstep." I step out of the room, leaving the heavy door to swing shut behind me.
The Titanium Spire Bratva is about to crumble, and my feisty mama will soon become my wife.
