Getting away with the Alpha's Pup

Chapter 135

Chapter 135

Fern's Perspective

The next day.

At 8:00 a.m., I got out of bed, brushed my teeth, and got dressed. After finishing my night of tending to Giovanni, I desperately needed some relaxing activities to relieve the tiredness and tension within me.

Yes, tension.

In the morning, when Tobias brought my breakfast, he mentioned that Giovanni seemed to have awakened.

However, I recalled my plea to Nuu-Chah, the moon god, last night, and the oath I had taken.

Honestly, I wasn't sure how my relationship with Giovanni would unfold with Nuu-Chah's assistance and how it might alter my life later on. It left me apprehensive, feeling unprepared to face Giovanni now that he was awake.

I made my way downstairs and out the back door of the manor. Jogging to the forest behind the manor, I found a secluded spot behind a tree where I could strip naked. After stowing my clothes in my bag, I changed into fresh ones and released my white wolf with sapphire eyes.

As my paws touched the grassy ground, I darted into the forest with my pack in my mouth. The cool breeze eased my apprehension. Energized by the rustling wind, I was drawn deeper into the forest by the endless rows of trees. I didn't halt until I heard the sound of the river.

Sitting by the riverbank, I gazed at my reflection, then up at the sky, taking in a deep breath of fresh air.

Since joining Giovanni's pack, my life had been under constant scrutiny, and my daily "battles" with Giovanni had kept my nerves on edge. If it weren't for Giovanni's serious injury and my saving him, I wouldn't have had this momentary freedom.

The silence allowed me to clear my mind, bringing some peace. When I noticed a glimmer of light, I knew it was time to return.

Running back through the forest, I shifted back to my human form, got dressed, re-entered the manor, and headed upstairs. Turning the corner of the hallway, I heard heavy footsteps stop. I walked slowly down the hallway, not bothering to see who was approaching.

Suddenly, my body was yanked forward and slammed into something hard. "Ah!"

"Goddess, I was so worried! Where have you been?" The man, burying his head in my hair, asked in panic.

My hand pressed against his hard chest, and as I felt the sparks and smelled his scent of grass and forest, I realized it was Giovanni.

As our eyes met, I saw a mix of worry, relief, and a hint of anger in his gaze.

"Oh, it's you. Good morning, Alpha... I mean, Giovanni," I said.

He gently tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, tenderness abounding in his eyes. For a moment, I felt like I was seeing my once-brother again, always so gentle in my memories.

"Where were you this morning?" Giovanni asked softly, his voice so gentle as if he was afraid of startling me.

"Something didn't seem quite right. His wolf smells so good," my wolf asked, but her eyes made it clear that she was captivated by Giovanni in front of her.

"It's quite normal. Have you forgotten that last night, in order to save Giovanni, I asked Nuu-Chah, the moon god, for help in making us fall in love to deepen the bond between us?" I mentally reminded my wolf.

"So you're saying..."

"My Goddess, you haven't told me where you've been." The exchange between my wolf and me was interrupted by Giovanni, who spoke up again.

"I went for a run in the woods out back. What happened? Did something occur?" I replied.

Hearing my words, Giovanni once again pressed our bodies together, and the sparks intensified.

I heard my wolf let out an involuntary moan.

Then he buried his head in my neck and whispered, "I couldn't hear anyone in your room, and your scent was faint in the hallway. I thought something had happened to you. Don't do this to me again, please. I can't lose you."

The sincerity in his voice tugged at my heartstrings, but I was reminded of what had happened between us earlier, and I did my best to suppress the abnormality in my mind, resisting the bond's influence, and keeping my composure. "I'm sorry I worried you. But there haven't been any attacks around here, have there?"

"No," he whispered in my ear, his warm breath tickling my skin. "But that doesn't mean I'd be less worried if I didn't know where you were."

I tried to keep myself calm. "You can ask Aaron. He saw me leave."

His body froze, and his grip on my shoulders tightened as he pulled away to look me in the face, his eyes fierce and his tone filled with jealousy as he slowly asked, "Who is Aaron?"

My brow furrowed as I simply replied, "The guard at the back door. He's the one on duty, right? I think he saw me leaving through the back door this morning."

Giovanni's body relaxed, and he brushed my cheek with his thumb, smiling happily.

His eyes softened, that deep, loving gaze seeming to engulf me. His look was gentle and affectionate, as if I were the most important being in his life.

I was almost overwhelmed by the intensity of the emotion, feeling my heart racing and my cheeks burning slightly.

"I have no intention of interfering with your freedom, but please do let me know where you've been. I really can't bear the thought of you being away from me, even for a moment, my Aurora," his voice was low and full of emotion.

I was stunned and took an involuntary step back. "Aurora?"

Giovanni frowned slightly, appearing confused. "Yes, my Aurora. Don't you remember? We've been through so much."

The words of Nuu-Chah, the moon god, flashed through my mind instantly. "Wishing doesn't really make one's wishes come true." "it is those who truly love each other who will find their way to one another."

Could Giovanni really have mistaken me for Aurora?

"Giovanni, are you mistaken? I'm Fern, not Aurora," I corrected carefully.

Giovanni's expression became complicated, and a hint of pain swept through his gaze. "Fern? Who's Fern? No, you're Aurora, my mate. I can feel it. How could I be mistaken?"

Giovanni's words suddenly struck me with a sense of impotent frustration. Nuu-Chah, the moon god, had really played a cruel joke on me by putting me and Giovanni in this situation. I tried to calm myself and think about how to solve this problem.

"You really don't remember Fern?" I asked tentatively, searching for any trace of me, Fern, in Giovanni's memory.

Giovanni's eyes flashed with confusion, but it was quickly replaced by determined love. "I'm sorry, I don't think I remember such a person, but Aurora, you're the one I've been looking for. There is no one who will ever come between us."

"Poor guy, it looks like he's been driven mad by that woman's betrayal," my wolf said compassionately.

I had mixed emotions. I couldn't bear to shatter Giovanni's illusions, yet I couldn't endure his misplaced feelings either.

Nuu-Chah, the moon goddess, had helped me, and now this humiliation was the price I had to pay.

I couldn't help but feel a twinge of bitterness inside as I looked at the affectionate Giovanni in front of me. Every time he addressed me, he reminded me that it was all a lie. What a cruel punishment this was.

It seemed like what Nuu-Chah, the Moon Goddess, said: the only way for Giovanni to truly fall in love with me was for him to recognize his own heart and remember me and everything between us.
