Chapter 93
Chapter 93
Ryan lay sprawled on the hotel bed, the remnants of the night’s bachelor party scattered around him—a half-empty bottle of whiskey, discarded party favors, and a crooked tie hanging off a chair. His phone buzzed on the nightstand, a quiet sound that barely registered over his labored breathing.
Brenda stepped into the dimly lit room, her heels clicking softly on the floor. She had insisted on checking on him after the chaotic party, armed with a thermos of strong coffee and a carefully crafted excuse to intrude. As she moved closer to the bed, her sharp eyes caught the glowing notification on his phone.
Curiosity turned to suspicion when she saw Amelia’s name.
She picked up the phone, her pulse quickening as she read the message.
Cancel the wedding. I still love you.
The words hit her like a slap, and fury surged through her veins. She gripped the phone tighter, her nails digging into her palm. “Not again,” she hissed under her breath, her voice trembling with rage.
Her mind raced. This was supposed to be her victory, her moment to solidify her place in Ryan’s life. Amelia couldn’t swoop in at the last second and ruin everything. Not after all the careful planning, the relentless effort to paint herself as indispensable.
With a calculated calm, Brenda deleted the message. The notification disappeared as if it had never existed. She replaced the phone exactly where she found it, smoothing out the tablecloth beneath it.
“That’s better,” she muttered, a triumphant smirk creeping across her lips.
She pulled out her own phone and quickly typed a text to her closest confidant: Everything’s back on track. Finalize the guest list and confirm with the florist. This wedding will be perfect.
Her confidence renewed, Brenda stood by the bed for a moment, looking down at Ryan’s slumbering form. A pang of doubt flickered across her face, but she squashed it as quickly as it came.
“This is what’s best for you,” she whispered, as much to herself as to Ryan. “Amelia doesn’t deserve you. She never did.”
Brenda turned on her heel and left, her heart pounding with a mixture of satisfaction and fear. For now, the crisis was averted. But she knew Amelia wouldn’t give up so easily.
