Contract Marriage; Fated Love

Chapter 106

Chapter 106

Noah was late to work and on getting to the office, his assistant was on seat, as expected.

“Good morning, Noah,” she greeted sweetly. He dropped his phone on the table before her and shouted,

“What is the meaning of this message you sent to me?” he roared, fury written all over his face.

Grace cocked her head in one direction and smiled dryly. This was a message she sent days ago. Why was he just seeing it?

“You had better speak up! Again, what's with the condoms I found inside my jacket? Huh? Have you gone mad?”

“Noah! Will you stop shouting? Just tell me, when are you going to realise how much I love you? I should be Mrs Harper not that woman in your house. What is it that I've done that is so unforgivable? Noah, I love you and I want to be with you forever.”

For some seconds, Noah was zoned out. He couldn't believe what was escaping her lips.

“Miss Shields, I don't know what games you are playing, but whatever it is, this madness has to stop. If you intend to use dirty tricks to ruin my family, then I suggest you have a rethink. The next time this happens, don't bother coming to work because I'll fire you. Are we clear?”

“Fire me and you will see the other side of me. I dare you to fire me. How about I tell everyone that it's your sexual advances which I declined that got you mad at me?”

Noah looked at her again, unsure of what to say but he knew he had to be careful now, since she has taken to blackmail.

“The next time this happens, I'll fire you. Are we clear Miss Shields?” he asked with a frown on his face.

“Yes sir,” she answered.

At the close of work, Noah dropped by at the florist shop and picked a beautiful white velvet for his wife. When he got home, he found her in the bedroom. She was on a phone call when he entered. He went closer to her and kissed her cheeks. She turned and rolled her eyes at him. He found this act funny. She looked even more pretty when she frowned or acted like a child. Some minutes later, she was done with the phone call but acted as if she was oblivious of his presence.

“Sweetheart, I got you flowers and I'm sorry,” he apologized and settled himself beside her on the bed.

“I know I have no explanation for what you saw this morning but one thing I need you to believe is that I'm not cheating and I never will. I suspect you must have seen a text on my phone. Babe, that's not true. I only discovered the message today and I can swear that no such thing happened. I went to pick up something for Frank that Friday night, I didn't go any other place, I didn't meet any other woman or do anything that will cause you pain. I don't have any excuse and I'm sorry babe. Please, forgive me,” he pleaded.

Emily looked at him and she could see the sincerity in his eyes. She wanted to believe him but the signs were all to glaring. The perfume on his clothes the last time, the letter, the text and the condoms. Can it really be true that he knows nothing about this and is not involved in anything?

“Babe, you know I won't do anything to hurt you. I'm not cheating.”

Emily raised her brows and gave him a look that spoke volumes. Initially, he didn't want to tell her that Grace was the sender of the message but now, he knew he had to.

“Grace sent the message and she was the one who placed the condoms in my pocket. Her motive is clear, babe, but we can't let that happen, right?”

“What about the love letter?” Emily asked.

“What letter?”

“Don't play cool with me. You know what I'm talking about.”

“Common babe, I don't. Tell me please.”

Emily told him how she found a well constructed love letter in his pocket the last time. And she finished with the question,

“Who's she?”

“I don't know about the letter and I'm sorry you found it in my clothes. I'm not seeing any woman and that's all I need you to know. But please, can you let me know if I do anything next time? If you had told me, we would have talked about it and settled it. You are the only woman, sweetheart. I will never look at another woman, I promise.”

“Thanks for the flowers,” she eventually said.

“Is that a yes? Does that mean I'm forgiven?”

She smiled sweetly at him and nodded her head.

The deep harbor project was in progress and they were recording tremendous success on it. The team members worked closely and did their best to ensure a job well done. Noah was more careful now and always on the lookout to stop all of Grace's plans to crawl her way back into his life, by crook or hook.

He was seated in his office with Grace and they were working on a file as usual.

“Why don't we have the fourteenth floor contain those things? You know, my wife said something to me and I think it's really a good idea. She said we can't have the basic and essential things which people use in everyday life at the top floors. The ground floor or any of those down floors will be a better one. What do you think?”

“Yes, that's true. Then, then we can replace those things in the fourteenth floor. Let me document it,” she said and input some figures in her laptop.

Noah's ringing tone disrupted the peace of the moment. He took out his phone from his pocket and tapped the answer button.

“Hey Blackwood. Could you please come downstairs for a few minutes? The package is here and I need you to see it before I go.”

It was Frank, his very good friend. They had a pre arranged conversation so he knew what he was talking about. He returned the phone to his pocket and said to Grace,

“Excuse me, give me a few minutes and I'll be back. You can continue with the work.”

Then he left the office. He had barely left the office when his phone rang. He had gone out with the one in his pocket while the other was on the table. Grace peeked into the phone and saw the caller ID was Wifey. She knew it was Emily and when the phone rang again, a thought occured to her. She slid her hands across the screen and the call connected.
