Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Emily turned around to look at the man who talked to her with sharp eyes. The man was startled. He couldn't help but put down his hand.
"Who are you?" Emily was a bit angry. She had been disturbed by different men from the beginning of the party, and she was running out of patience.
The man in front of her looked not bad, but his eyes seemed obscene and evil, making her feel unpleasantly greasy. She felt like a prey being targeted by a predator.
From not afar, someone noticed them.
"Isn't that the son of the Carter family? I heard he was in trouble and had been grounded. He's out so soon?"
"You're right. It's Austin. He's notorious for being cruel to women. They are practically his toys."
"How did you know?"
"Don't you use Twitter? There were a lot of leaks, but the Carters made them go away."
"Emily doesn't have the Hopkinson family behind her anymore. This will not end up well for her."
Derek happened to be nearby, so he heard their discussion. He frowned and looked at Emily, thinking, 'What's the matter with her? Is she a troublemaker or what? Why are there always people wanting to mess with her since I've come here?'
Derek suddenly found today's party annoying.
Austin extended his hand to Emily again, probably because he was embarrassed that he had been startled by Emily's glare.
"I heard you used to be a lady of the upper class. And later, your father died of anger because of your scandal. But I don't mind. Sluts like you are usually good in bed." Austin looked at Emily disdainfully, as if she were a plaything.
Emily pulled a long face. She slapped Austin's hand and raised her other hand.
A crisp sound rang out.
It was followed by an ear-piercing scream.
"Bitch! How dare you slap me?" Austin's scream was extremely harsh.
People noticed that there were a lot of screams at the party today, and they realized that men's screams were much worse than those of women.
Emily rubbed her ears. She stood next to Austin, so the scream was almost unbearable for her.
"You are an idiot." Emily rubbed her wrist. It had been a long time since she had slapped someone, and she was a little rusty.
Austin covered his face. He couldn't believe that Emily dared to slap him. No matter how much trouble he had caused, the most severe punishment he got from his family was nothing but confinement. Today was the first time he had been slapped. Moreover, he was slapped by a slut.
"Bitch! I'll chop your hand off! You're just a woman without any support. What makes you think you can fight for the family property? Maybe I can give you a hand if you serve me well in bed," said Austin fiercely.
"Do you know why your family indulges you so much? Because you're already a lost cause. What a complete idiot." Emily's words were utterly harsh.
"Shut up, slut!" Austin's eyes were red, and he panted heavily. He thought, 'Woman, I'm going to punish you. I will make you regret it by humiliating me.'
Suddenly, Austin raised his hand. Yet in the next second, it was stopped. Someone grabbed Austin's wrist, and the man's grip was so strong that Austin could not pull his hand no matter what.
"Austin, right? Since your family turns you loose, I might as well teach you a lesson on their behalf." Derek held Austin's hand. Then he said calmly, "Your father has disinherited you. He'd rather give his inheritance to a bastard now. Do you know why?"
Austin thought as his eyes widened, 'How would Derek know about the bastard and the inheritance? I didn't know it until I was in detention. How did Derek know so fast?'
"Because you are a piece of trash," Derek said calmly. In his eyes, Austin was no different from a piece of trash. Such a person didn't deserve his attention or time.
The atmosphere was very tense, and no one dared to speak. Today's banquet proved to be very informative compared with the usual ones they attended, and the news was so juicy. They could not help but take a few steps back and stay away from Derek, Emily, and Austin, to avoid being implicated.
Austin looked at Derek in shock, fear, and resentment. He recalled what his father said to him before he was confined. Austin's father told him that causing trouble was all he was capable of. He had decided to give Austin up because Austin was utterly useless.
And now Derek said the same thing.
Austin had always thought that the entire family was in his hand. Unexpectedly, a bastard who showed up out of the blue snatched all the things away, which was the last thing he could bear.
"Good for you, Derek. You managed to get under my skin. Others might be afraid of the Scott family, but not me." Austin resented Derek as much as he resented his father because they said the same thing about him.
With Austin's words, everyone moved further away. To their surprise, someone was stupid enough to challenge Derek.
Austin took out his phone and made a call.
Soon, more than a dozen beefy men rushed in and surrounded Derek and Emily.
"How dare you provoke me! I will let you know that you are nothing. I can have you killed any time." Austin looked mad. "And you, bitch, how about having some fun with my men?"
With that, Austin waved his hand, and they encircled Derek and Emily further.
Everyone else at the scene stopped retreating, as they knew that the space was enough for Derek. They thought, 'It's been a long time since we've seen Derek take on an idiot. It's so worth the trip today. We can brag about it for a long time after we get back!'
"Austin, what are you doing?" Nick's voice rang out from the crowd.
It was Nick's birthday party, so he had got a lot of guests to meet. If not for the squabbles here, it would have taken him much longer to come over.
Nick narrowed his eyes. He often had a smile on his face, but when he stopped smiling, it was unexpectedly frightening.
"It's my birthday party, and you are in the Field's. What makes you think you can do that?" Nick warned Austin.
Nick was in a good mood today, and he didn't want to make a scene.
Austin laughed dismissively. "Nick, you didn't mess with me, but these two did. I am very angry. This is personal. Don't be nosy."
Nick was so angry that he somehow began to laugh. He thought, 'Seriously? Austin, you're on my family's property, and you're telling me not to be nosy? You got a lot of nerves saying that.'
Several muscular men appeared behind Nick. They were all well-trained and sturdy.
Austin wavered.
The situation fell into a stalemate.
Suddenly, Emily walked forward and smiled at Austin, "What did you say? You want me to beg you?"
Seeing her walking out voluntarily, Austin thought that she wanted to beg for mercy. He grinned. "That's right, gorgeous..."
In the next second, Austin let out a heart-wrenching shriek.
As he spoke, Emily suddenly kicked at his crotch. No man could stand such a fatal attack since it was the most fragile part.
Austin clasped his legs and knelt, unable to speak but screaming in pain.
"Since you have brain damage, I might as well do you a favor." Then Emily picked up a bottle from the table next to her and smashed it into Austin's head.
With a bang, today's banquet reached its climax.
Austin fainted while shattered glass shards splashed on his body.
"Bravo!" Nick clapped. "Aren't you afraid that the Carters will go after you?"
Emily wiped off the wine spilled onto her face and replied, "They are nothing but new money, yet they have offended the Scotts and the Fields at the same time. I suppose that they will be gone from upper-class society tomorrow.
"Besides," Emily added. "The host did not lay a hand on the guest. There was a conflict between the guests, and the host helped mediate. What a hospitable host. Am I right?"
"Smart woman," Nick praised.
Looking at Emily and Nick chatting, Derek somehow felt agitated.
"Gosh! What did I miss?" Suddenly, a surprised female voice rang out.
Louise walked out of the crowd with a confused face. She thought, 'I've only been out for a while. Why do I have the feeling that I miss something important?'
"Sorry to disturb you. A lot happened today, and I think I'd better get going. I hope I didn't spoil it for everyone," Emily said to the people around her.
Then she nodded at Derek before turning to the host of the banquet. "I'm sorry, Nick. Happy birthday. I'll be leaving now."
Nick didn't stop her, and the others wouldn't stop her either.
Emily pulled Louise and walked out of the Field's.
