Chapter 77. THE OTHER SIDE
Chapter 77. THE OTHER SIDE
Note: This chapter is about Sarah Cox, Sophia's older sister. I just want to give you guys an insight of her life currently.
SARAH COX
I heard a loud thud sound from outside and I got off the bed immediately. It's past eleven at night and the only reason I was asleep was that I was waiting for Mark.
"Mark?" I called as I made my way to the door.
I opened the door to see Mark on the floor and looking drunk. Tears formed in my eyes when I saw him.
Lately, he has been drinking a lot. He gets a job and after a week he loses it for an unknown reason and then we have to go by eating just bread until he gets a job again.
I too have been searching for a job and I would have gotten a better job if I took my certificates with me but I didn't and now I am here, struggling to survive.
"Mark," I squat to take a look at him. I sniffled him and almost choked. He reeked off alcohol. He wasn't like this before but lately, he has changed.
"Don't fucking touch me," he slapped my hands away and I flinched.
Whenever he was drunk, he spoke rudely to me and threatened to hit me and I will have to stay away until he was sober.
"Mark," I wanted to touch him but he hit me again.
"I said don't touch me. You... You are the one who ruined me," he muttered, breaking my heart.
He has been hurting my feelings lately. Calling me an unfortunate person and the reason he was going through so much.
I tried reasoning with him and understanding that he was going through a lot but he keeps repeating those words and then when he woke up in the morning sober, he begins to apologize to me.
I haven't heard from my parents and I haven't heard from my sister. It's like I'm not in this world anymore as I made sure to cut off ties and not leave a means for them to trail me.
The one time I sent a message to Sophia, I had to get rid of that line. I sold the little valuables I own to get money for us and now I have nothing.
I sold my phone, my necklace, and even my shoes. Now I wear a flip-flop around. I tried getting a part-time job but it's hard finding one because of the area we were residing.
"Come, let's go in," I said sniffling a little while wiping the tears that slipped down my cheek.
"Don't touch me. You ruined me," he cried and my already shattered heart shattered again.
Did I ruin him? He has been saying this when things started getting hard for us but he forgets that he was the one who had pleaded with me to run away from my parent and go with him and because I loved him, I went with him and it's because of the love I have for him that is making me still hang around and putting up with his shitty attitude.
"Get up!" I said a little louder and harsher.
Mark did get up but when he did he glared at me.
"Don't touch me. I hate you so much you do not imagine it," he said and I felt my heart ache and the pit of my stomach clench. He has been saying hurtful words to me for weeks now but he has never told me he hated me and now I doubt if I'd be able to forgive him anymore.
"You hate me?" I couldn't believe my ears. He pushed me to the side and I almost lost my balance. He entered the house and slammed the door in my face.
I took in a deep breath and exhaled before going into the house, following behind him.
"You are drunk. I won't be saying anything to you," I said, refusing to argue with him.
"Drunk? What did you just say to me?" He said coming close to me in a terrifying way and I moved away from him in worry.
"I am drunk? Are you trying to call me a drunk? Whose fault is it that I am drunk huh? Tell me!" He exclaimed and I began to cry.
He clicked his tongue in disbelief. "And she's crying. Who permitted you to cry. Did I say you can cry? Don't even start with me Sarah because I am telling you that you will regret it," he warned, pointing his index finger at me.
"Don't!" He shouted and I fell to the floor with tears streaming down my cheek.
"I said don't cry!" He exclaimed, grabbing me by my hair and pulling me up.
I winced and cried in pain as I tried to remove his hold from my hair. He slapped my hand away and I cried.
He was becoming violent. He wasn't violent but he was becoming violent and it terrified me.
"Don't! Don't!" I screamed and he pushed me to the wall. Just before I could recover, he grabbed my throat.
"Don't act like a saint. Don't even cry. You ruined me. You are just a piece of shit and I wished I never left my mother and sister for you. I regret it so much. Thinking it would be fine and then you lured me and now look at where I am. It's messy and shitty and you dare to call me a drunk?" He said through his teeth.
"You... You are hurting me Mark," I cried out and he laughed maniacally.
"Exactly. Feel my pain. Just feel my pain you wretched human being!" He spat in my face.
"You are hurting me, Mark. Please let go," I pleaded but he tightened his hold on my neck, making it hard for me to breathe.
"You are shitty. You are stupid. You are just the worse mistake in my life and I will never forgive you. I was living fine. I could have been better if I had not left the job offer I got back I'm New York but necessary I decided to run away with you, this is what I got. This is where it landed me!" He screamed in my face while using his other hand to punch the wall.
He was blaming me for everything. Now I am the bad person and he is the victim. I thought I would be happy as long as I was with the man I loved but I guess Adrian would have been better.
I couldn't believe that the man in front of me is Mark. He was saying hurting words to me and is choking me at the same time. He is calling me names and accusing me of making it fail when he made me run away with him but then again, it wasn't his fault. I blame myself.
I blame myself because I could have still stuck with my family but I left them, letting them handle their problem as if it wasn't mine and this was karma's way of punishing me. I deserve all of it. I deserve everything.
I deserve the pain and the torture. I deserve the words he said to me. For what I had done to my family, this was little.
"I do not want to see your face. You disgust me and I don't want you coming close to me. You don't know how much I resent you. What was I thinking?" Snarled.
"Why was I thinking that a rich princess like you would bring me happiness? Your family is broke and who knows if they went bankrupt because of you after all you ooze with bad luck!" He spat harshly in my face and my chest tightened again and again.
I was done with Mark and that's the truth. No matter what, I won't be staying here anymore. I will leave him and go back to my parent. I will so for their forgiveness and even if they don't want anything to do with me, I will make sure to get their forgiveness.
I regret my actions so much.
I regret that I had to stay with someone like Mark. His true colors were coming out now. He is nothing but a monster.
To think for weeks, I tolerated his shitty attitude? Thinking about it, I can't help but insult myself because I had to endure him for weeks.
He finally let go of me and I crumbled to the floor while trying to catch my breath.
"I don't want to see your face and I'd prefer you slept outside after all that's where shitty people like you belong. Outside with the night!" He spat out before walking away.
I sobbed silently. It was late already and he was asking me to sleep outside where it was cold. I would be first thing tomorrow morning but I cannot sleep outside or go outside at night because it's dark and dangerous.
"Or you could sleep on the cold floor because that's what people like you deserve," he spat out before lying on the bed and covering himself with the duvet.
I curled my legs to my chest and hugged my knees while sobbing silently. I was waiting for him to sleep so I could take the little things I have with me and leave before sunrise tomorrow because knowing him, once he is sober, he'd come and apologize and I was done with his shitty ass.
I want nothing to do with him and that's period. I watched as he hastily jumped off the bed and ran to the bathroom to vomit. I didn't move an inch from where I was because I could care less about him anymore.
The little feelings I have for him vanished this night and there is no way I'd ever look his way again. I heard the toilet flush and he returned to the room, glaring at me.
"You are nothing but a witch. Yes, I said it. You are a witch and people like you will die! You disgust me," he said through his teeth before lying back on the bed.
I glared at him while he slept.
This day won't be forgotten by me and I have learned a very big lesson that I would never forget in my life.
I barely slept that night. I waited for him to have slept long enough before I packed the little clothes I have left. At four in the morning, I sneakily left the house and made my way to beg from strangers on the road to help me with little money so that I could travel back home.
"Mom, Dad, I'm sorry. Your daughter regrets her decision," I sobbed as I walked in the cold with my arms wrapped around my chest.
