Chapter １８SICK

SOPHIA CASTILLO

I took care of Adrian all through the day when he refused that I called the doctor. I had to get warm water and a towel later to help reduce his fever.

In no time, he was able to sleep peacefully.

I fell asleep with my head on the bed while I sat down on the floor.

By the time I woke up, Adrian was awake and he was staring at me with a questioning look on his face.

"You took care of me?" He asked and I nodded my head before yawning with my arms stretched out.

"Are you still feeling sick? If so I'd call a doctor for you. I didn't call any because of your request not to," I told him getting up from where I sat.

"Who asked you to take care of me?" He asked in a cold tone and I felt my stomach sink.

"You were shivering and so I thought it would be the right thing to do," I told him.

"Right thing to..." He sneezed.

"Are you okay?" I hurried to check his temperature.

"I checked your temperature last night and your fever was gone so..." I attempted to place my hand on his forehead but he slaps my hands away lightly.

"Do not touch me," he said firmly.

"But you..." He cuts me off.

"I said do not touch me. What part of the English do you not understand?" He chided and I kept my mouth shut.

He attempted to get up but couldn't and so he groaned lightly before lying back on the bed.

"Are you okay?" I asked him, keeping a distance from him as I did not want to offend him.

"I am fine. I am not handicapped, am I?" He sneered.

I do not know what happened to Adrian or where he had been but I know he is sick and he needed the attention of a doctor.

"You will have to see a doctor and that is a must," I said firmly, surprised by the tone I had just used.

"I said I am fine. It's none of your business anyways and I'd appreciate it if you just stay away from me," he chided and I rolled my eyes at his attitude.

"You are not fine. Let go of your pride or whatever it is that is making you refuse me from getting a doctor because, at this rate, we never know what's going to happen if you just lie on the bed," I retorted.

Adrian stared at me with a questioning expression on his face and to my surprise, I was unfazed by it.

"Do not test me, Sophia," he said almost silently.

"I am not testing you, Adrian. You are shivering and you are acting tough about it. It's bad for your health and does not think I am only trying to help you because I want to seduce you. There is nothing to seduce about you," I said, surprised at my tone and confidence.

Normally, I would have cowered away and let him have his way but here I was demanding he listened to me and I was as shocked at myself.

Adrian seemed surprised too.

"You just keep proving me right all the time Sophia. In no time, I will uncover everything about you and your family Sophia. In no time," he said and I sighed.

"That's fine. You can do as much research as you want but the fact remains my family and me have nothing against you and we do not intend to take away your property or your anything from you. I indeed had to marry you so that your grandfather can help my family but that is just it. There is nothing more or less to the situation," I told him.

"You can accuse me later but for now if you won't let me call a doctor to come to check on your then I might as well inform your grandfather of your current situation, so the choice is yours?" I shrugged.

"And her true color is coming out. Little by little, you will expose yourself and I will finally tell you that I was right. You are trying to blackmail me?" He clicked his tongue and I opened my mouth in disbelief.

"Excuse you? Blackmail you? You call that blackmailing?"

"You have gotten to be one of the most ridiculous humans on earth," I said.

"Watch your tone while you speak to me woman!" He sneered and I kept mute almost immediately.

"I said I am fine. You can leave the room okay? Nobody wants you to stay and besides I am granting your wish, leave the room and go stay somewhere else, I do not want to see your face for you disgust me," he spat out and I felt my chest clench.

Ouch!

Adrian deserved the award for the most meaningful human on earth.

I suddenly hated myself for caring more than I should and for wanting to cry because he said some bad words to me.

I should be used to it already but I wasn't and it annoyed me.

"Fine," I said before walking out of the room.

Tears rolled down my cheek the moment I stepped out of the room. I wanted to leave this place and go find my parents.

You can freeze to death for all I care Adrian.

"Sophia," I heard Sarah's voice, and I halted on my track.

I quickly wiped the tears that formed in my eyes before turning to look at her.

"Are you okay?" Sarah asked me and I nodded my head before smiling weakly at her.

"Are you sure? Did sir Adrian say any hurtful words to you again?" She asked and I shook my head.

"Why do I feel like you are lying? Come on, let's go to my place," she said and I followed her lead.

"You will be fine, do not worry," she said to me.

Sarah has been nothing but a good human to me and I was glad I had her in this mansion.
