Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Raphael POV
I was looking at some papers.
My friend, Royce, was sitting on the couch in my office.
Royce said, "Raphael, who's our partner this time? I can't believe she stood you up! Not many women in New York would dare to do that. Wait, you said before that she was a software designer and a genius, right?"
I didn't look at him and said, "You'll find out later when you meet her."
What I was going to start this time was the design project for the newest cell phone of Royal Group's subsidiary. Previously, I had not been able to find a suitable AI software designer, and all this project was repeatedly delayed.
The market potential for Araceli's Creaty was huge. That was what I was looking for.
I called Royce the other day and told him about it, and Royce was surprised. The U.S. did not currently have leading AI software. We all knew that if a phone with such software was ever released, it would create a buzz. This was why Royce was very curious about who the designer was.
Time flew by.
Royce and I waited for almost half an hour.
I raised my eyes, looked at my watch, and frowned slightly.
Royce was a little impatient, frowned, and said, "Raphael, she didn't stand you up again, did she?"
Had Araceli not been discharged yet?
I called Laurel in. "Laurel, give Ms. Chancey a call."
Laurel nodded and turned to go out the door.
Royce said, confused, "Raphael, what are you telling Laurel to call Ms. Chancey for? Are you going to have Melany come over?"
I said indifferently, "Araceli is the software designer."
"What? Araceli?" said Royce incredulously, "Don't be ridiculous! She looks like a rich girl who doesn't know anything."
I raised an eyebrow. "Believe it or not, she's a great software designer. You'll see when she gets here."
Royce suddenly raised his voice and said, "Wait, I suddenly remembered that I just saw Araceli when I got here!"
"Are you sure?"
I frowned.
"I just ran into her in the lobby." Royce said, "She was walking fast. I didn't say hello to her. I thought I was looking at the wrong person. I didn't know what she was doing here at the time. How could she possibly be here?"
I clicked on the company's surveillance system and tapped on a video that showed Araceli walking into Royal Group's building about an hour ago.
I let Laurel in again. "Laurel, go downstairs and ask why Ms. Chancey left."
Laurel nodded her head and was about to turn around and go out. I suddenly got impatient and said, "Forget it. I'll go with you."
Laurel was a little shocked, but didn't say anything, just nodded. Royce stood up and followed me to the elevator.
Soon, we were on the first floor.
I saw a receptionist gossiping with her colleagues. She said, "Did you guys see that beautiful woman who just came in? She is Araceli Chancey! She said she wanted to see Mr. Lancaster, but she didn't have an appointment. I guess she just came to seduce our president..."
I frowned slightly. Laurel also heard the words and hurriedly walked over.
The receptionist said to Laurel with a smile, "Laurel, why are you in such a hurry? What's wrong?"
I walked over, my face as cold as ice.
I said, "Ms. Chancey came here half an hour ago, didn't she? Why did she leave?"
The front desk staff all froze. The receptionist was obviously frozen for a few seconds, then replied, "Ms. Chancey? Sorry, Mr. Lancaster, Ms. Melany Chancey did not come..."
"Stop lying! You know I'm talking about Ms. Araceli Chancey."
The receptionist's face turned pale. "Mr. Lancaster, I'm so sorry... She didn't have an appointment, so I just let her go..."
Her voice trembled, and it was as if she was about to cry.
Laurel took a deep breath and said, "Do you know how long Mr. Lancaster has been waiting for Ms. Chancey? How dare you let Ms. Chancey leave?"
The receptionist shuddered and said, "Laurel, Ms. Chancey said she didn't have an appointment. I was just following the company rules and procedures..."
Laurel shook her head and said, "That's enough. Hand in your notice as soon as possible."
The receptionist burst into tears.
Laurel turned to me and said seriously, "Mr. Lancaster, I will contact Ms. Chancey as soon as possible..."
Before she could finish her sentence, I turned around and walked toward the elevator.
Laurel's voice came from behind me.
"Ms. Chancey, this is Laurel. Mr. Lancaster is waiting for you. What time will you be arriving?"
I stood in the elevator doorway, frowning slightly.
Laurel called Araceli, said a few words, and then fell silent. Just as I was about to step into the elevator, Laurel said, "Mr. Lancaster, Ms. Chancey has asked to speak with you."
I turned and saw Laurel respectfully hand me the phone.
I took the phone and said, "It's me."
Araceli said, "Mr. Lancaster, since you want to talk to me about the partnership, please come to my office. I will send the address to Laurel's cell phone."
She finished, hung up, and sent the address of her office to Laurel's phone.
Looking at the message, I gritted my teeth and got a little angry.
Royce looked at my face and said, "Raphael, let me guess how that woman replied to you... Did she ask you to fire that receptionist just now?"
Royce was very confident.
I shook my head. "No."
Royce rubbed his chin. "Shit, did she ask you to go pick her up?"
I shook my head again.
Royce tried to keep guessing, and I glanced at him, and he immediately shut up.
Laurel got her phone back, saw the message, and guessed what Araceli was asking for. She immediately said, "Mr. Lancaster, I will now immediately arrange for your driver to drive you to Ms. Chancey's office."
"What? Is she crazy?" Royce said in shock, "Does she know how many people want a chance to work with Royal Group? How dare she make such an outrageous request? Raphael, we absolutely cannot compromise!"
I stepped into the elevator and said to Laurel, "No need to call a driver. I'm going to the garage now."
Royce stared at me and froze.
