Let's Be Friends
Let's Be Friends
"Yes, sir! A female guest said someone was banging on her door nonstop, disturbing her rest. When I got up there, I did find a woman outside the door. She wasn't just knocking-she was shouting insults at whoever was inside. I asked for her name, but she refused to tell me. That's why I detained her for questioning."
A dangerous glint flickered in Xavier's eyes. "What exactly was she saying?"
"She said..."
Thinking back to the string of expletives Karina had just unleashed, Brody-a grown man-was almost too embarrassed to repeat it.
He took a few steps away to put some distance between himself and Karina, then carefully picked his words for Xavier.
"She didn't seem to care who lived there. Kept shouting things like 'cheap little tramp,' said she had no shame, didn't deserve to live in a place like that, and told her to get the hell out... stuff like that."
"And since there's only one room on the 36th floor, she clearly wasn't worried about disturbing other guests. She got even louder-cussing at the top of her lungs. I could hear it the second I stepped off the elevator."
Xavier's face darkened, like a storm rolling in.
On the line, Brody asked tentatively, "Mr. Blaze... since this lady is your friend, should I... let her go?"
Barely containing his anger, Xavier said coldly, "Take Miss Carter back to Security. I'll come deal with this myself once I finish up here."
"You're coming in person?!"
Brody thought Xavier was coming to defend Karina and instantly softened his tone. "Sir, you're a busy man-no need to trouble yourself over something this small. If you'd like, I can just release her right away..."
"There are rules in this hotel," Xavier cut in sharply. "What you told me and what she told me are completely different. The hotel just opened-we can't afford a single slip-up right now. As Executive Director, it's my duty to handle this fairly and properly."
"Of course! Mr. Blaze, your judgment is razor sharp! It's truly an honor to work under your leadership!"
"No need for flattery. I'll decide what happened after I see the security footage myself. Take her to Security and pull the surveillance tapes from the 36th floor during that time."
"Right away!"
"Mhm."
After hanging up, Xavier narrowed his eyes, already piecing the situation together.
Brody had been transferred from another X Group hotel specifically to head Security here-his character was someone Xavier trusted.
As for Karina... he knew exactly what kind of person she was too.
His expression grew even darker.
If what Brody said was true, then Karina had stood outside Room 3601 and screamed at Serena for a long time.
And that silly girl-Serena-just took it? Didn't even talk back?
Thank God she didn't completely let it slide-at least she called Security.
Raising his hand, Xavier pointed toward the decorated stage for the grand opening ceremony. "Move faster! Let's wrap this up now!"
He wasn't rushing to Security to play judge.
He just wanted to get back to the room-check on the girl who'd just been bullied.
Forty minutes later.
Everything was taken care of, and Xavier finally made his way to the Security office.
Inside the head of Security's office, a man and woman sat on opposite ends of the desk.
Brody snuck a glance at the clock.
Almost an hour. Where was Mr. Blaze?
He was about to be murdered by Karina's dagger-like glares.
However long she'd been in here, that's how long she'd been glaring at him like he'd ruined her life.
And because she was Xavier's friend, he could only sit there in silence, enduring it.
Karina sat back in her wooden chair, arms crossed, and asked with a mocking smirk, "Captain White, you've kept me locked up here for ages-what exactly are you trying to do?"
"Hehe..." Brody chuckled nervously. "Miss, please don't be upset. Just rest a little longer."
"Rest?! If I wanted rest, I'd go back to my suite! Sure, it's not a presidential suite, but it's ten times better than this office!"
"Yes, yes! You've been treated unfairly!"
"Then let me go already!"
"I'm very sorry-just a little longer, please!"
"What for? Why should I wait?! You know I'm friends with Mr. Blaze and still have the nerve to keep me here? Are you trying to disrespect him too?!"
"Miss, that's not it at all! I'd let you go in a heartbeat, but Mr. Blaze personally said to keep you here. He'll be coming over after he finishes up."
"Oh?" Karina's eyes lit up. "Xavier said he's coming to see me?"
"Yes, he did!"
"Well, okay then!"
Assuming Xavier was coming to personally escort her out, her mood instantly brightened.
She leaned back, relaxed, and even started chatting with Brody like they were old friends.
"So, Captain White, how long have you been working with X Group?"
Brody laughed. "Almost ten years! I used to work in another one of our hotels. When this one was getting ready to open, Mr. Blaze personally transferred me here."
"Oh? That means Xavier thinks pretty highly of you, huh?"
"Oh, I wouldn't say that. Maybe he just thinks I get the job done," Brody replied humbly.
Karina's eyes twinkled with calculation.
If someone like Xavier trusted Brody, then this man was no ordinary staff member.
She herself came from a wealthy family. She knew all too well-families like the Blaze clan looked peaceful on the surface but were full of hidden power struggles.
No one succeeded alone in that kind of world.
To survive, you needed allies. And to win, you needed the right backing.
If she wanted to become the Blaze family's daughter-in-law, she'd need to start building those alliances now.
Brody might be a bit dense, but at least he had Xavier's approval.
If she could pull him into her camp, it'd definitely help her get closer to Xavier.
"Captain White!" she said sweetly, softening her tone. "What happened earlier was just a misunderstanding. I hope you won't hold it against me. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot, but let's be friends, yeah?"
Brody looked completely stunned.
She reached out her hand.
And he was still unsure if he should take it-when suddenly, a smooth voice came from the doorway:
"Miss Carter's being so friendly... Captain White, how could you possibly say no?"
