# 122 Fixing the Family
# 122 Fixing the Family
Anna hummed to herself gladly as she walked away, she didn’t know what plans Maxwell had but the moment she saw Linda, she knew it was now or never. If she ever wanted to get rid of Linda, this was her chance.
It was not like she didn’t trust Maxwell to get the job done but this is someone he used to care for, someone he made love with for months, he clearly still had a soft spot for her or she wouldn’t be here today. She didn’t really blame him, knowing how exes can be manipulative; Jimmy for Example.
“Hey! Anna!” A familiar voice called to her attention.
Annabel turned to her left and her eyes met Megan. “Megan! You made it!” she said excitedly and they embraced each other.
“Of course, sorry I am late, I had to go pick up Ugochi from the airport.” She announced.
The name struck a bell but Anna couldn’t recollect where she had heard it before. “Ugochi?” she muttered and then she gasped. “Oh my God, you mean the bar lady from Botswana?”
Megan immediately pointed to her where she was standing alone. “Yeah, we are together now.” She smiled.
“Awn, congratulations, I am happy for you two.” She said with genuine excitement.
“Thank you. But I should be saying congratulations, you know when you became Mr. Blackwood’s PA, I never thought you would last past three months, I felt he would get weary of you and dispose of you like the others.” Megan confessed.
“Ouch!” Anna feigned a hurt face.
“I am sorry!” Megan chuckled. “Anyways, I am glad to see how far you two have gone and I have this feeling that we are about to get even better news. I mean, look at this party, I can feel it in the air, we are looking forward to something amazing.” She admitted.
Annabel laughed. “Thank you Megan, you have been a good friend to me. Come on, let’s go greet your date.” She urged as she looked towards Ugochi, who was looking lost in the crowd of white people.
“Oh hi Megan,” that annoying voice yapped as she walked past.
It didn’t click at first but then recognition hit her and Megan gasped. “Linda? What is she doing here?” she queried.
Anna groaned. “Yeah, she has been a real pain in the ass but don’t worry, I am taking care of her tonight, she will be no more trouble.”
“Yeah, you better do. That lady is bad news, she is the absolute worst, you do not want to be in a rivalry with her. You have to be very careful with her.” She advised.
“Forget about Linda, come on… Let's go meet Ugo….” She paused, unable to finish the name.
Megan laughed. “Just call her Cindy, no need to remind her she is away from home.”
“Haha! Oh, I heard about your promotion, sorry I haven’t called to say congratulations, I have had a lot going on in my life lately.” Anna said.
“Oh, it is fine. Thank you, I feel like I owe that one to you.”
“Come on, we both know that you don’t. You earned it, keep doing you.”

Maxwell walked up to Simon where he was standing in the garden, out in the cold quietness of the night. “I see you found one of my spots.” He said, trying not to sound cold.
Simon sighed. “I could leave if you want me to.”
“Come on Simon, don’t be like that. So about our tour, would you like to see something else?” Maxwell asked with a smile as he stood side by side and tucked his hands into his pocket.
Without looking in his direction, Simon waved his head. “Nah, I think I have seen enough.” He replied coldly.
“Come on brother, I promise it will interest you, just come with me and see for yourself.” Maxwell urged.
Simon sighed for the umpteenth time. “Fine, let's go.” He said with a bleak smile.
Maxwell hummed and patted his shoulder, then he led the way. They walked down to the Garage where all of his exotic cars were parked, and like Maxwell had promised, Simon was thrilled.
“Wow, is that a mustang?” he asked with wide eyes.
“Yes, and there is a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, a BMW and pretty much all top car brands. It is my collection, although I hardly go out with them,” He uttered proudly.
Simon was impressed. “This is amazing, I have begged Dad for one of these double exhausts for months, he doesn’t even pay attention to me.”
“Ahh… of course, Old Forbes.” Maxwell chuckled. “Why don’t you pick one and we can go for a quick spin around the block.” He offered.
“What? Really?” Simon asked, a look of doubt in his eyes.
“Yeah, come on… pick anyone, I will be in Maybach, it is my favorite.” Maxwell laughed as he walked to one of the black cars. “Race me if you dare.” He said in a challenging voice.
A broad smile spread across Simon’s face. “Oh I dare big bro, I dare.” He muttered excitedly.
In a matter of seconds, the two cars zoomed out of the parking lot, catching the attention of the guests outside. Maxwell took the lead as they sped through the driveway, but Simon took him by surprise when he maneuvered past faster than a lightning bolt.
As much as Maxwell was thrilled and wanted to put up a challenge, he wanted his brother to enjoy this ride, that was the point of the contest. So he let him keep the lead while he watched from behind. From the screams of excitement, he could tell Simon was having a time of his life, he was even scared that his brother might crash but Simon appeared to be much more experienced than Maxwell could imagine.
Finally, they parked at a very quiet part of the long driveway, far away from the mansion. They both came down from the car and Simon expressed his excitement at the experience.
“You are good, I will give it to you.” Maxwell laughed.
“You are not bad either, maybe I could learn a thing or two from you,” Simon taunted.
Maxwell chuckled, he could sense that arrogance in the Forbes Bloodline within his brother, he was his father’s child after all.
As the conversation progressed, Maxwell slowly changed the topic.
“So… I heard you love racing, and I think that is good for you. But I was just curious. If you have thought of the future, what plans do you have, brother?”
Simon’s expression changed immediately. “Come on Bro, don’t ruin the mood. Did mother put you up to this? Because I am sure father doesn’t give a damn.”
Maxwell laughed softly. “Relax, I am just being concerned. I don’t want to lecture you or be another father figure in your life, Simon. But as someone who was once in your shoes, not certain of what path to take in life, I am looking out for you. you know there is a whole future ahead of you and you need to start building it now, you are no longer a kid.”
Simon sighed and looked away. “I don’t know, I have never thought of it, I hate to think of it, responsibilities tire me, especially when they don’t align with my interests. I can't join the family business with father, I have no interest in that.”
“And that is very much okay, Simon. It is not compulsory that you should join father, but you still have a whole future ahead of you, you still need to make your mark in the society. You don’t want to be remembered as Peter Forbe’s other son, do you?”
“So what do you suggest I do?” Simon asked and turned to face Max, he was beginning to see reason with him.
“I actually have an idea. To start with, how about you fill the position of Manager in my new club? I don’t think there is anyone better for that position than you. Perhaps with time, you would figure out what you really want in life, but then it would be much easier for you because you are experienced.” Maxwell offered.
“Really? You would put me in charge?”
“Of course, just don’t run it to the ground.” Maxwell joked.
Simon smiled. “Alright Bro, I think I will take it. I will try not to get carried away, thanks for the opportunity.”
“You are my brother, I know we didn’t have much of a childhood together, but you are my blood and distance can never change that, I would do anything for you guys.”
“Okay now you are making me emotional, hugs?”
“Ugh, no we don’t do that.” Maxwell pulled back, making a funny face and Simon laughed.
“Cool then, handshakes!”
They shook hands and then casually hugged each other. “Okay, that is enough, keep your space now.” Maxwell joked.
“Yeah, space! Exactly, try and catch up.” Simon laughed as he walked with his back towards the car.
“I will beat you this time.” Maxwell promised.
“Let’s see you try, big bro. I am going to embarrass you.” He laughed as he got into the yellow Lamborghini.
Maxwell smiled. He was fixing his family, one at a time. Now he needed to find Abigail, she was up next.
