CHAPTER 20 (PUT HER IN HER PLACE)
CHAPTER 20 (PUT HER IN HER PLACE)
“I want to talk about what you did to Beauty today.”
Kathy rolled her eyes, already dismissing the conversation.
“If you’re here to defend your whale friend, you’re wasting your time”.
She smirked.
“Oh, please shut up, you insecure bully”.
Jessie snapped.
The word hung in the air, sharp, and cutting.
Kathy’s smirk faltered slightly, but she quickly recovered, keeping her expression neutral.
“Ugly? Bully? Don't make me laugh…. I’m just telling it like it is honey. Someone has to put people like her in their place.”
She smiled.
Jessie’s hands clenched into fists, she so much wanted to punch that bitch on the face, but she kept her composure.
“No, Kathy. You’re not telling it like it is; Beauty is, in fact, very beautiful, more beautiful than you with your makeup and all the surgery and personalized daily beauty monitor and treatments, you paid heavily to look like shit and Beauty naturally has it all that's why you feel intimidated and bully her”.
“Excuse me what? If I wanted to be like a whale I know how to look like one, eating a hungry whale”.
She laughed out loud.
“Beauty did nothing to deserve what you did to her today, and you know it. You humiliated her in front of everyone, and for what? To make yourself feel better? To show off to your little fan club?”
Kathy opened her mouth to respond, but Jessie cut her off.
“You’re the one who needs to be put in her place, Kathy. You think you’re so perfect, so untouchable, but all I see is someone who’s insecure and scared….scared that someone else might shine brighter than you, even if it’s just for a moment.”
Kathy’s face flushed with anger.
“And who could that person be…a whale?”
She faked another laugh.
“Oh please…stop wasting my time, Jessie. Defending that pathetic whale of a friend you have. But let’s be honest, you’re only doing it because you know she’s too weak to stand up for herself!”.
“Beauty is not weak! Beauty has more kindness and strength in her than you ever will, and that terrifies you. You can throw all the insults you want, but it doesn’t change the fact that deep down, you’re just a sad, insecure bully who has to hurt others to feel good about herself.”
“Claiming that Beauty’s some saintly victim? Everyone in this company knows the truth. She’s a joke, Jessie!
A fat, ugly joke! You can go ahead and play the hero, but all you’re doing is setting her up for more disappointment.
No matter how much you coddle her, Beauty will never be anything more than the company’s charity case, a sad, overweight nobody who’s out of place in this beauty industry!”
For a moment, the two women stood there, staring each other down in intense silence.
The other employees who had gathered nearby, eager to witness the drama, chuckled and murmured among themselves, their whispers adding fuel to Jessie’s anger.
“You are a disgusting bitch Kathy”.
Jessie snapped, breaking the ice.
“Face it, Jessie,” Kathy said, her voice filled with arrogance. “Beauty is nothing more than a pathetic, desperate loser who’s trying to fit in where she doesn’t belong. And if you’re smart, you’ll stop wasting your time on her. She’s making you look bad, having a whale as your best friend.”
“You know what, Kathy?” Jessie said with her face squeezed in anger. “All those things you’re saying about Beauty, they don’t make her any less of a person. But they certainly do show the kind of person you are. And that’s someone I don’t want to be anywhere near. I am lucky to have Beauty as my best friend and you…no one will love to be your friend..you may think you have others admiring you but deep down they hate you…trust me they talk behind your back!”
Jessie saw the puzzled look on Kathy's face and sensed fear. People like her always have that fear of having haters in the form of fans.
“Next time you decide to tear someone down, think about what it says about you, not them. Because everyone else can see it, even if you refuse to.”
With that, Jessie turned and walked away, leaving Kathy standing there, stunned and speechless.
Jessie’s heart was still pounding with anger, but she felt some satisfaction, knowing she had spoken the truth and stood up for her friend in the way that mattered most.
As the crowd dispersed, murmuring about the heated exchange, Kathy’s smirk slowly faded.
She had gotten the last word, but something about what Jessie said left an unsettling feeling in the pit of her stomach.
They all talk behind my back?
She angrily walked towards her car.
When Kathy’s driver and assistants noticed her approaching, they quickly scrambled to get everything ready for her departure.
“Hurry, will you?” Kathy snapped, her voice sharp and laced with frustration. “I don’t have all day!”
Her driver fumbled with the car door, trying to open it quickly, but his hands were trembling under the pressure of her glare.
“I’m sorry, Ms. Kathy…”
“Sorry? Sorry, doesn't get me in the car any faster, does it?” she hissed, cutting him off.
The driver’s face paled as he finally managed to open the door, stepping aside quickly to avoid more of her wrath.
As she slid into the back seat, one of her assistants hesitated, unsure whether to speak up or stay silent.
Kathy noticed.
“What are you waiting for? Get in the car! Do I have to do everything myself? You wanted a replacement so bad?!”
Her assistant quickly apologized, nervously getting into the car as Kathy continued to vent her anger.
“You all act like it’s your first day on the job. Pathetic! I can’t believe I have to deal with such incompetence.”
The driver engaged the car engine and pulled out of the parking lot.
Kathy was furious not just at them, but at herself, for letting someone like Jessie get under her skin.
Her mind raced, replaying the conversation with Jessie over and over, each word cutting deeper into her and the thought of it made her even angrier.
