Alpha's Little Miracle

Chapter 18

Chapter 18

ADRIA'S POV.

I blinked after hearing that statement and you can't imagine what happened in that single blink.

I blinked only to open my eyes and meet myself somewhere different. A rock dropped in my tummy, and I took a step back, turning around as wind blew my hair into my face harshly.

"Gosh." I exclaimed softly as I looked around. Everywhere had a dark atmosphere but I could still see, and my heart began to throb. Where was I? Could I really be in my nightmare? It almost felt like looking into smoke. There were trees around but they were only a few and they rustled to the sound of the wind.

All around me was a vast piece of land. It somewhat had a resemblance to a desert for I was standing on sand which was definitely a few feet deep. The trees all gave an eerie aura. It felt like they were all staring at me and the wind continued to howl in my ears, shouting and communicating words I couldn't understand. I didn't want to stay there. I wanted to leave.

I pushed away my hair which had wrapped around my face and started turning around frantically. There had to be a way somehow. Maybe a house I could run into because it felt very scary, and there was this deep rooted tension rising from within that told me something bad was bound to happen.

With my breath coming out shakily, I started to sprint across the desert-like land, my foot embedding deep in the sand with each step.

It made it harder and I began to fear there would actually be sinking sand anywhere near, because the sand was just too much.

I could hear the sound of my own heart beating in my ears and my hair whooshed past me, flowing in the wind, and then all of a sudden, an image formed in front of me, and I screamed stepping back and accidently stepping on the side of my leg, causing me to fall to the ground.

My eyes snapped shut as I began to gasp in fear, not wanting to see whatever had formed in front of me. Then I heard a loud wail, so loud that it pierced my ears. My eyes flew open and my hands dashed to my ears, trying to block out the sound.

Only for me to add my screaming to the wail ringing in the air.

The image that had formed from nothing was one of me, crying hard, and sobbing and there were two holes in my neck, two bloody holes.

The image becane solid with each passing second and, in a minute, it felt like I could actually touch it.

I scampered away on the floor, going as far from it as I could, and then it began to flicker like a broken video game or a video game with fluttering internet connection. I could also liken it to an old white and black TV with those lines flickering around it. It was all very horrible. It looked solid like a real body but still managed to give that sensation that it was just on a screen, and then another one started to form, close to me, and I screamed, immediately getting on my hands and knees, crawling away with my hair hanging dangerously on the sides of my face, stopping me from seeing the things I ought to see.

I crawled my way onto my feet, and started to run without looking back, but all around, images began to appear, images of me wailing—me in different clothes, in different hair-dos, me in different ages, and even when the image of a wailing old woman appeared, I knew she was me.

They all began to wail and I fell to the floor, hugging my knees to my chest and burying my head in it, crying and shouting at the same time, wishing to get out. Even the wind already felt like hands caressing my body, its whispers felt like calls—soft calls towards doom. My heart raced like a sports car and my nerves were all jangled together. My very bones were trembling and my breathing came out faster with each second. It felt like I was going to die. Then all of a sudden, they all rose from the floor still screaming and wailing.

How had I known that they had risen to their feet? Simple. Their wails sounded louder.

My head shot up and I looked at each of them who stood scattered across the vast sand. They were all staring at me and it was then I discovered they didn't have eyes. Their chests were heaving heavily and they looked like they were about to blow up, burst or maybe explode is the word for it.

"Wait." I heard myself whisper meaninglessly as my creaking bones began to rise shakily. If they wanted to give chase then it was only fair that they waited till I was on my feet and ready to run.

However, before I could make it to my feet, they had started to chase, screaming and holding murderous intent in the pit of darkness where their eyes were meant to be. I screamed and fell all over again before stumbling and staggering to my feet.

They ran pretty fast and our screams all mixed in the cold air. The wind blew saliva from my own mouth all over my face, and if I had been in school, I would have freaked out in embarrassment but being at that place at that moment, I couldn't care. I was simply unable to.

However, it all suddenly began to feel like I was a ball on the field because in every direction I ran, there was always another image running to me.

I'd stop and turn, running only to see another one running towards me. My heart was no longer in my chest. It was in my throat beating heavily there. To be precise, my whole body seemed to be vibrating with my heart's thunderous beating and I began to wonder if I was going to die of whatever they were going to inflict me with or if I was going to die from a heart attack.

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" I screamed as I came face to face with one. I fell to the floor, and scampered away, only for the wails to stop abruptly. Silence reigned immediately and even the wind died down and I began to hear the loud shrill of silence in my ears. My eyes played restlessly in their sockets, not wanting to look up, but eventually I did.

I looked up and saw they were gone, and slowly, I stood to my feet, looking to both sides to be sure there was nothing there, but in a moment, a little moment, I felt something—a presence. I stopped breathing, and turned my head and feet as slowly as I could. The only thing in me that was moving fast was my heart beat and finally I saw what was behind me, and I took a step back in fear.

It was then that I wished desperately to faint.
