Chapter 499 Father and Son Confrontation
Chapter 499 Father and Son Confrontation
Chapter 499 Father and Son Confrontation
At the top of Wayne Tower, amidst the interplay of fire and light in Gotham City, stood a person.
A boy who should have been lying in the soil, finding peace.
Jason Todd.
He had grown up, taller and stronger, but Batman recognized him at a glance.
Batman paused, took a deep breath, and called out, "Jason—"
During their first battle, he discovered Jason's identity. Jason was unruly, stubborn, and easily angered, and these traits were reflected in his fighting style. However, compared to the past, Jason was now more sinister and ruthless, and he would do anything without considering the consequences.
"Heh." Jason forced a laugh, but it was devoid of warmth, filled only with endless mockery. "Looks like the League of Assassins' welcome wasn't warm enough, Bruce!"
Beneath the mask, Jason's face was contorted; the man he once called a father figure was now his enemy.
He no longer hated the Joker; that twisted being was simply born that way.
He no longer hated his mother, Sheila Heywood, the doctor who didn't even know he was her son; she was just being coerced by the Joker.
But he hates Batman!
Batman couldn't utter a single word; he didn't even move, just stood there, which fueled Jason's rage. "I saw it, I saw it all! You took care of Mr. Freeze and the others with absolute ease, even those assassins—"
"Look at you, you possess such power," Jason took a step forward, "You can break their bones, tear their muscles, and incapacitate them in the purest way possible. Just pull the trigger, just make a slash with a knife, and those criminals will die!"
"But you...you chose to spare their lives," Jason's voice suddenly rose, filled with obvious anger, "just like you spared the Joker's life!"
Batman's body tensed for a moment.
He almost did it, he was so close. Bruce still remembers that day vividly; it remains one of the worst nightmares he's ever had.
But Jason didn't know that he was just frantically questioning, filled with the pain and confusion accumulated over countless days and nights, "Why?! That madman, that damn bastard, he tortured me and killed me with a crowbar, and what about you? The world's greatest detective, Gotham's Dark Knight, the mastermind of the Justice League—"
"You knew all of this perfectly well. You knew he'd just end up in Blackgate or Arkham Asylum, and then escape in a few days. You had the ability to stop him from doing evil again. You could—you could kill him!"
Finally, Jason practically screamed, "Why did you let him live? Why did you allow that monster to continue creating more victims like me? Tell me, Bruce, is your no-kill policy more important than my life?! More important than me—more important than everyone who died at his hands?!"
Batman remained silent, but his figure seemed to hunch over, as if there was some heavy burden on his back that was about to crush him.
Jason's anger was far from over; his rage and resentment weren't just because Batman hadn't killed the Joker.
"And then?" Jason's voice suddenly turned icy. "How long have I been dead? A year? Or a few months? Tell me, Batman, tell me, what were you doing while I lay in the cold earth, rotting and forgotten? You found a new son! A new Robin!"
"That kid named Tim Drake! He wore my uniform, stood in my place, and enjoyed everything that should have been mine! Are you going to replace me with him soon? Like replacing a broken tool?!"
Batman tried to say something, but Jason interrupted him, "You make me feel that my death—was utterly worthless! My sacrifice didn't even stop your damned no-kill policy and your endless Robin production line!"
But Tim didn't actually wear Jason's suit. After burying Jason, Batman left the suit she was wearing in the Batcave.
The blood-stained uniform tormented Bruce day and night, constantly reminding him that he was the one who killed Jason Todd!
"Tell me, Bruce, tell me! Me, Barbara, and all your girlfriends, are they just disposable pawns in that horrible game between you and the Joker? Tell me!"
"I don't----"
"Shut up! You've let me down, you've let everyone down!" Jason roared, picking up a rope from the ground and yanking it hard, finally revealing the true forms of the enormous objects around him.
It wasn't the bomb Batman imagined, but rather individuals: Dick Grayson, Lucius Fox, Lucas Fox, and others. Their common trait was that they knew Batman's true identity and offered him assistance; some were even members of the Bat-Family.
There was only one exception: a guy who was hanging on the edge of Wayne Tower and easily overlooked, but his laughter caught Batman's eye.
"Hahahaha! Batman, save me like you always do! Hahahahaha!"
The clown cried out for help, but the joy in his voice couldn't have been more obvious.
He knew tonight's drama was going to be spectacular; Batman had to choose between him and Jason Todd, which couldn't be more exciting. He had just barely managed to hold back his laughter to add to the drama.
The only pity is that he can't turn around at all. The clown is now tightly bound, and even if he could turn around, his view would be blocked by the wall.
But Jason didn't need to be tied up like this at all! Yes, yes! Uncle Joker couldn't be happier after learning about his plan; he would be 100% willing to cooperate with Jason's actions.
Perhaps today is the day Batman breaks his own rules! Hahahaha————
"Look how happy he is!" Jason sneered, suddenly drawing two pistols from behind his back, pointing them directly at Batman. "Kill me, or I'll definitely kill the Joker!"
Gunshots rang out, and Batman instinctively rolled to the side. Bullets grazed his cape and entered the wall behind him, sending sparks flying.
Dodging pistol bullets was not difficult for Batman, and he even had plenty of time to spare. He didn't draw any weapons, but relied on his superhuman reaction speed and fighting skills to weave through the barrage of bullets and then approach Jason.
Jason's marksmanship was ruthless and precise; every shot was aimed at a vital point, filled with murderous intent, but this could not extinguish Batman's will.
He had to stop Jason, he had to—
Take him home!
