Chapter 405 Batman, how are your birds doing?
After the farce, Rune began explaining the abilities and personalities of the Crime Syndicate members to the other Justice League members.
In reality, these Syndicate members scattered throughout the DC Universe are not that much of a threat anymore. Without Nite Owl, they can only flee from place to place under the pressure of the Runes.
If they were willing to join the world's Luther, perhaps the name of the Crime Syndicate would be restored to D0.
The sound echoed throughout the world, but unfortunately, they had just attacked Luther, completely offending this megalomaniac.
Wait, did they really offend Luther?
As Rune continued describing the personalities and abilities of the supervillains, he kept this somewhat absurd idea in mind.
"—Lutter's counterpart ability, like Shazam's, occurs after he shouts 'Zaan Shazam'—"
"Wait, who is Shazam?" Barry raised his hand, like a primary school student asking a question to a teacher.
"How could you not know Shazam?!" Rune frowned, but suddenly remembered that in the New 52, Shazam's first contact with the Justice League was during the Trisolaran War.
At the time, Shazam had just defeated Black Adam using his intellect. This process was full of coincidences in various senses. If there had been even the slightest mistake, the DC Universe could have been destroyed.
Black Adam would not destroy the world; he still deeply loves his Kandak. But the Seven Deadly Sins are different. Theoretically, these seven terrifying beings, symbolizing primal desires, truly possess the power to destroy a universe.
"Okay," Rune said, covering his face, "you guys better keep an eye on Philadelphia; things might get a bit turbulent there lately."
While others were still puzzled by Rune's words, Batman was lost in thought. This boy before him seemed to know a great deal.
Bruce was unaware that Rune was also pitying him!
In the New 52 timeline, Jason Todd's revenge takes place shortly before the Trisolaran War.
Rune briefly introduced Shazam's abilities, but didn't forget to tease his intelligence, "—Although Solomon bestowed wisdom upon him, it only gave Shazam a lot of knowledge and extraordinary memory; he himself is not really intelligent."
Cyborg was still managing the world's surveillance. After returning to the Hall of Justice, he barely spoke, as the massive flow of information overloaded part of his brain.
"Steel Bones".
In response to Rune's call, Cyborg raised his head.
Rune continued, "I have a request. You need to look for clues about artificial intelligence on the internet. Its name is Grid."
In the original comics, Grid is an artificial intelligence created by Cyborg himself to process excessive information; it can be considered his mechanical personality. However, after being injected with a virus by Atom, Grid broke free from Cyborg's mechanical parts and turned against the Justice League.
However, when Rune reviewed the memories of Superpower and others, he discovered that the virus itself had already existed. It was widely used by the criminal syndicate for network surveillance and information processing, so it is very likely that the Grid has already infiltrated this DC universe at the network level.
The most troublesome part is this mesh without any physical structure.
In the comics next door, Ultron achieved immortality on the internet and lived a very comfortable life. Even if he was beaten up by the Avengers a few times, it didn't matter because he could always get another body and cause trouble in the physical world.
However, in DC, Cyborg can destroy artificial intelligence like Ultron that relies on network data to survive, so Rune is too lazy to do it himself.
Steelbone nodded. No wonder he'd been feeling something was off about the internet lately.
"Batman, can you come with me? I have some questions for you."
Bruce didn't like being told what to do, but Rune didn't give him that chance. He grabbed the ordinary man and forcefully led him out of the Hall of Justice.
The view outside the hall was rather desolate.
"How are your little birds doing?" Rune asked, offering a silk cigarette as a gesture of goodwill. He didn't smoke them himself, but Constantine did.
The air around Batman instantly turned colder, and the surroundings became so quiet that Rune could even hear the birds chirping.
Sigrún has taught at the Iceland University of the Arts as a part-time lecturer since and was Dean of the Department of Fine Art from -. In – she held a research position at Reykjavík Art Museum focusing on the role of women in Icelandic art. She studied fine art at the Icelandic College of Arts and Crafts and at Pratt Institute, New York, and holds BA and MA degrees in art history and philosophy from the University of Iceland. Sigrún lives and works in Iceland.
Rune sighed inwardly. The death of the second barrel must have happened, but it seemed that Batman was unaware that his body had been switched by Rashomon before burial and that Rashomon would soon seek revenge against him.
It's pathetic. Batman knows so many things, but he doesn't know how to handle family relationships. After all, his parents, who could have properly taught him, died in that alley long ago.
This directly resulted in the Bat-Family being more of an organization built on ideals than a peaceful and loving family—even though the Robins all idolized Batman as a father figure.
Since Rune dared to provoke Batman, he naturally had ways to calm Batman down.
"Here." Rune put away his cigarette and handed Batman a bottle of potion, but Batman didn't take it.
"What is this?"
Rune smiled. "A potion. Give it to Barbara, and she'll be able to stand up again."
Batman's expression softened slightly, but he still didn't take it. "She won't drink it."
Barbara was shot by the Joker, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down, but this level of injury is not a terminal illness for Batman. If Barbara wanted, Batman has hundreds of ways to help her stand up again.
Whether it's the alien technology on Cyborg's body, Zatanna's magic potion, or the hidden miracle machine, all of these can restore Barbara's health, even if Barbara wants to grow more legs.
But Barbara refused. She was originally a kind, strong, but occasionally sharp-tongued young woman, but the shooting changed her forever.
Batman, who doesn't understand children's inner thoughts, sometimes wonders if Barbara is reminding him of his own negligence in this way.
But Rune simply gave the potion to Batman.
"In the East, if a child is wronged, parents usually prepare a lavish meal for them to express their apology. But if the child refuses to eat, the parents will force this apology into the child's mouth."
Batman raised an eyebrow. "You mean, I should force her to drink this potion?"
Rune shrugged.
That's just how I see it.
She drank it, so what? Could she possibly break her own spine again?
"Thank you," Batman said. Then, as Rune turned his head to lead Batman into the Hall of Justice, a faint buzzing sound came from above.
When Rune looked up, he saw a bat-like airplane above him, and Batman had already hooked himself onto it.
So what if you're rich? I'm rich too!
Rune muttered to himself as he re-entered the Hall of Justice.
All that's left is for Cyborg to find any clues about the criminal syndicate members.
