Chapter 178 Divine Spear Bureau
In the Marvel universe, which organization can monitor S.H.I.E.L.D.? Which organization is likely to be overlooked by Hydra?
Rune believed that only S.M.A.R. met both conditions. S.M.A.R. was an intelligence-gathering organization created by the clock for homeland security; therefore, strictly speaking, it was not a subordinate organization of the United Nations, and having long focused solely on domestic affairs, it was easily overlooked. However, S.M.A.R.'s power was not to be underestimated.
The Sniper Bureau wasn't actually that hard to find; in fact, you could say they actively sought out Rune. After all, he was a guy who flew at Mach 5. You might not have a concept of that speed, but many famous Ultraman flew at around Mach 5.
Since Rune hadn't done anything particularly exciting, he was invited into the S.H.I.E.L.D. base. The S.H.I.E.L.D. base was a huge ring-shaped aerial fortress, resembling a donut. The base adopted a hollow ring design, with the central area likely used as an energy core or command center, surrounded by multiple modular modules.
Most importantly, S.H.I.E.L.D. learned from the destruction of their Helicarrier; their base possesses self-repair capabilities.
It is equipped with an energy shield, a stealth system, and anti-aircraft weapons, making it difficult to detect or attack.
"Your presentation was excellent." Rune nodded, acknowledging the female agent's explanation, but he wasn't there to listen to empty rhetoric: "But I'd like to speak with your director."
The female agent paused for a moment, then nodded: "Okay, I'll go and fetch him right away."
A short while later, a man in a suit and tie walked over, followed by four other people, two men and two women, some wearing armor and others wearing tight-fitting clothes.
Lu En greeted the man in fluent Mandarin: "Hello, Director Zheng Xian."
Zheng Xian nodded, seemingly unsurprised. Standing directly opposite Lu En, he smiled and asked, "They say we welcome friends with fine wine, but wolves with hunting rifles. Would you like to share a drink with us, or—"
Sunlight streamed through the reinforced glass of the circular dome, and Zheng Xian's smiling face resembled that of Lu En's former principal.
"Of course you're friends, and actually, I need your help." Rune was completely bad at playing games with this kind of person, so he got straight to the point: "I believe you have intelligence on S.H.I.E.L.D., and I suspect you can even directly monitor—"
"Wow, wow—" Zheng Xian raised his hands, interrupting Rune, "You can eat whatever you want, but you can't say whatever you want. We always respect S.H.I.E.L.D.'s interests, and we will never—"
"Come on, Director Zheng." Lu En looked at him calmly: "We all know that this is not the time to talk about these things."
According to reliable sources, Red Skull has become a berserker and has already obtained all six Infinity Stones. You should understand the seriousness of the situation, shouldn't you?
Zheng Xian sighed. He didn't respond directly to Lu En, but instead invited him to a top-secret conference room. After a long while, Zheng Xian and Lu En emerged from it.
"It's a pleasure to work with you." Zheng Xian handed Rune a special communicator, which Rune took and nodded with a smile.
This collaboration was more interesting than Rune had imagined. They granted Rune access to a portion of the satellites and provided him with a lot of intelligence, including the Red Skulls that inexplicably appeared in two regions three years ago, the battle—or rather, the war—that broke out within Hydra a year ago, and a list of villains who might be in the Red Skull camp.
All Rune needs to give up are some puppets, which couldn't be more cost-effective.
Nick Fury was standing in front of the holographic projection table. Steve had not responded for three hours, so he had to activate the camera installed on Fury, but the camera failed to start.
"So, our Boy Scout leader volunteered to go on vacation to a Third World country, and ended up being detained?" Tony Stark leaned back in his chair, his face half-open, his tone deliberately flippant, but his eyes were fixed on Fury.
Everything that happens at this point in time needs to be carefully considered. If Steve is captured by Wakanda, then they must consider the possibility that Wakanda has completely sided with Red Skull, and that Hydra has acquired vibranium deposits and processing technology.
Fury's single eye coldly swept over everyone present: "The situation is extremely dire. We must consider whether to rescue Steve first or carry out a decapitation strike on Red Skull."
"You've found Red Skull's location?" Natalie frowned.
Fury nodded, then pulled up a blurry surveillance video—the timeline showing Red Skull successfully transforming into a berserker and destroying the Hydra base. This base hadn't been included in the coordinates Fury had given Captain Marvel; he didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
"The Sky Carrier arrived at these coordinates several hours ago."
Fury said softly.
The decisive moment was fast approaching, and everyone present knew it. Thor looked around; no one was willing to speak, so he shouted, "Hey, I think we should go rescue Steve and, while we're at it, beat up those Wakandas who can't tell right from wrong!"
"No, Red Skull is coming soon! Splitting up now will only make everyone die faster!" Natalie thought the idea was incredibly stupid. She and Steve actually had a good relationship, but she couldn't let the entire team die for one person. She continued, "If we go to Wakanda now, we won't be greeted with flowers and feasts, but with traps and vibranium weapons!"
Fury nodded; he shared Natalie's opinion.
Stark raised his hands: "I choose to abstain."
Ant-Man shouted, "Hey, how come I didn't know the Avengers had become the Cold-Blooded Avengers? We have to rescue Steve, and don't we have reinforcements? Once that big green guy arrives, everything will be alright!"
"We should proceed with the decapitation strike," Wasp said coldly. "We are currently outnumbered. Our only chance to win this battle is to kill Red Skull directly."
"Should I remind you? Red Skull has turned into that damned Berserker, and he's surrounded by countless thugs!" Ant-Man said, annoyed. "The few of us can't possibly defeat him right away! It'll definitely turn into us fighting a whole bunch of thugs! We need to rescue Steve first; every extra person gives us a better chance of defeating Berserker!"
The heroes began to argue, but they eventually looked to the Sorcerer Supreme, who had yet to voice his opinion.
"Whatever you say, we'll do, Strange," Thor shouted. "We'll do as you say!"
The Strange Doctor nodded, frowned, and after a long period of contemplation, said, "I think—we should still proceed with the decapitation strike directly."
