Uncle Ed
Uncle Ed
“No.” I shook my head in denial. There was no way that this could be true. But on the other hand, why would my best friend lie to me about something like this?
“Isla, believe me I am telling you the truth.” She placed both hands on my shoulders and looked me dead in the eyes.
I was mad.
How could my father lie to me and say that my own mother was dead? Pembroke was full of lies and deserved nothing but bad luck! How dare they lie to me and make me think that my mother had died.
And what about my sister?
Oh, my goddess!
Did she know?
Was she in on this too?
“Where is she?” I growled.
“Isla, you cannot tell them that you know. Just as your best friend I cannot keep something like this from you. Please.” Zara begged me quietly as we spotted my uncle and a couple of others walking over to us.
“Isla, in my office now.” My uncle ordered and I glanced over my shoulder at my best friend.
“Please.” She mouthed at me, and I nodded. I would not say a word about this. There must be a reason as to why they would want to keep such a thing from me.
I felt my heart sink when I thought of how shit that my mother must be feeling right now.
“Right, take a seat.” My uncle pointed to the chairs beside his desk and went around to sit in his own seat.
Placing his elbows on the desk and clasping his hands together, he looked straight at me.
“I am sure that you are wondering why you are here?” He spoke and I nodded that I was.
Looking at his watch and then up at the closed door, he sighed and then rubbed his forehead. It was as if he were waiting for someone.
I was getting increasingly confused by the minutes.
“Is something the matter?” I finally asked and he seemed surprised by my questioning.
“You are correct.” He confirmed what I was thinking, and I felt a horrible rush of dread wash over me.
What could this be?
“Look, Isla. I understand that you have had a really difficult time in your life lately, but you did the right thing in rejecting Alpha Miller. He is trying trash. The thing is, Max wants to challenge Miller and take Pembroke as his own land.”
I was gobsmacked by this admission.
As if I had not already had enough shocks since returning to Eclipse.
“What about the pack members?” I should not care but since Aly and Jasmin had never done a sad thing to me, I did not want to see them get harmed.
“Isla, that pack is already beyond repair. You saw that for yourself.” he said with a sigh.
I knew that he was right, that pack was a mess, and I was glad to be out of there.
The door flew open, and I smelt him before I saw him.
Max.
Goddess, he was so damn fine.
“Oh, we were just talking about you.” my uncle grinned at Max who was staring right at me.
“I know, I felt my ears burning.” he winked at me and took a seat.
My cheeks burned red as I blushed.
He was making me feel things that I had never felt before in my life.
“We were talking about Pembroke.” he explained, and Max just nodded.
“That place will soon be under control.” I heard Max say confidently.
“But, what about my brother and sister?” I suddenly blurted out.
