What did you just say?
What did you just say?
Cora looked straight up, and relief flooded her face the second that she saw me. I noticed that our mother was sitting up in bed looking extremely glum.
“Oh, Isla. Please will you forgive me?” She started to weep as soon as I closed the door behind me.
Cora shrugged her shoulders, not sure what to say to either of us.
“What do you mean?” I queried, making my way to the empty side of the bed.
“I am so sorry for suggesting that Daniel fetch you. Your uncle has been calling and calling. They all miss you back at the Eclipse.” She said with a sigh, using the back of her hand to wipe her tear-stained face.
Cora handed her a clean handkerchief and remained silent, looking at me to see what I would respond with.
"I want you and Cora to come back with me, to Uncle Ed's. There is nothing here for either of you," I announced. My mother gasped, her face turned a pale white as if she had seen a ghost, while Cora shook her head. Her eyes had turned into huge round saucers as she thought over what I had said.
"But Isla. We live here. Alpha Miller would never agree to us leaving and what about our father?" Cora began to argue, but I was not interested in hearing about him. I did not even want to see him; he had hurt my mother so much. That, in my eyes, was totally unforgivable.
"We must stay here. Daniel will find it harder to control himself without Mora."My mother blurted out and my eyes darted at her in a second.
Mora?
"Why would Daniel care about her?" I demanded to know, but I knew. I had had that feeling since spotting the two of them together.
They were fated mates.
Even though she was marked and mated by someone else. Daniel would still have felt that she was his mate.
I felt anger boil up inside me, remembering his words on the journey back here. He had gotten involved with another shewolf and he knew he had a mate all along.
What was he thinking?
Cora did not look surprised either.
"Did you know about this?" I pointed a finger in her direction, accusingly.
She hung her head in shame and nodded that she had indeed known my brother was Mora's true mate.
"No! This cannot be true. How is it fair that I didn't know about this before?" My heart hurt.
My own brother was mates with that thing.
Cora jumped up and pulled me into her, wrapping her arms around me.
"Isla, we were sworn to secrecy. Daniel did not want you to know since he did not want it to cause any more added stress." She tried to assure me, but it was useless.
My brother had kept that from me. We were supposed to be close. OK, we had not seen much of each other, but i was still his sister. I had always gone to him with anything that was on my mind. He could have told me that Mora was his true mate, it annoyed me that he had kept it from me.
What else was he keeping from me?
"I need to go and see Daniel." i mumbled, pushing my sister away and turning to walk out of the bedroom.
As soon as I touched the doorknob, I felt my mother's hand on mine.
"You should stay in bed, mother. You need to rest." I sighed at her, gesturing to Cora to help, but she refused.
"Cora?" I frowned and glared at my sister, irritated.
My mother was as stubborn as my sister and me because she shook her head and slipped on her shoes.
"No, I have spent long enough in that damn bed feeling sorry for myself, my goodness. I need some fresh air and should show my face around here by now."
Cora grinned like a chesire cat and gushed with happiness at my mother's newly found confidence and strength.
"I am so glad that you are feeling better." She clapped her hands and grabbed her jacket. I watched as she quickly pulled it over her bare arms and then attempted to button it up.
"Isla, we should go and see your brother since he is in the pack hospital. I want to ensure that he is going to be OK." My mother turned to me and stated. I gave a slight nod and opened the door. Cora linked arms with my mother, and they chatted as they trotted down the corridor like they had no care in the world.
We did not get extremely far before Mora came bounding out of the dining room hurling yet more abuse at Alpha Miller.
I almost felt a little sorry for him, but then snapped back to reality when i recalled all the shit that he had caused me. He deserved the hassle he got from Mora. In fact, they deserved each other.
I noted the sympathetic smiles that I was receiving from other pack members as they clocked me. As if I needed or wanted anyone's sympathy.
Those two losers were more than welcome to each other.
The whole pack knew by now that I was back and had accepted Miller's rejection.
"You know he regrets what he did, don't you?" My mother whispered in my ear as she reached for my hand and squeezed it like she always used to when I was a little, she wolfs.
Pulling my hand away, I scoffed and scowled in the direction of Mora and Miller. I could feel his eyes burning into the back of me as we headed out of the pack house.
I was not going to give him the time of day, since he was the reason, everything was this way.
I hated him for evrutjing. I just needed to persuade my mother and sister to come back to The Eclipse Pack with me. I missed my best friend tons, plus everyone else. I felt lost without my training sessions too. I could have easily joined in training sessions here, but I was not keen on showing off my skills here, since I worried it may be a reason for Alpha Miller to refuse me to leave.
Pembroke was my true roots, but it was Eclipse that made me who I am today.
"Where do you think that you are all going?" Mora growled as the three of us exited the packhouse.
Seriously!
Did she not know when to mind her own business?
I was stunned when my mother and sister stopped to give Mora a bow.
Was this some sort of a joke?
Mora stuck up her nose and threw us a look of disgust, as if we were filthy rats off the streets.
"We are going to visit Daniel," Cora answered her. Mora turned to look at my sister and then smiled with amusement.
"Weak arise Daniel, my own mate fought him, and he lost. Do you even know what they were fighting omber?" Mora smirked like she was about to drop a huge bomb.
Alpha Miller marched over to us and ordered his Luna to be silent and go to bed to rest.
"Maybe you should be a good little girl and listen to your mate. Oh, sorry he isn't your fated mate, is he? Oh no, that is not to far from here." I pointed out, suddenly feeling my spark egnite, like wood on fire.
Alpha Miller turned around and glared right at me.
"What did you just say?"
I saw his eyes flash and knew that he was about to lose his shit, but I was not scared of him. I would kick his ass into next week. He was nothing but a weak alpha, to scared to admit when he was wrong.
