Chapter 555: Brady’s Advice

“Okay, I’ll try to find a way to help too. You’re Rachel’s nephew, after all. It’s only right for Lawson Group to offer some support to Phoenix Alliance Group.” With that, Brady picked up his phone and called his assistant. “Did you place the order for Phoenix Alliance Group’s stocks?”

“Yes,” the assistant replied. But instead of buying, he had placed a short-sell order.

Dave didn’t react to Brady’s theatrics. He simply said, “Thank you,” then turned and walked toward the ward.

Brady watched him go, a smirk forming on his lips. Images of Everleigh and his son Blake came to mind. He could almost see them standing there.

“Blake, when you return, I’ll have a big surprise waiting for you.”

Dave entered the ward, noticing the hidden bodyguards standing by the door.

He felt tired. In the past, he wouldn’t have wasted time talking to someone like Brady.

But to get justice for his aunt, Dave had to play it smart. He couldn’t let Brady think he was too sharp or too naïve. Either way, it would raise suspicion.

Inside the room, Bianca was helping Lucas drink water. When she saw Dave, she quickly passed him the cup.

Dave took it and gently placed a hand behind Lucas’s back, helping him sit up. “Grandpa, have some water.”

Lucas was weak, but seeing Dave brought him some comfort. “Dave, Rachel’s death…” he said softly in a fading voice.

After a brief pause, Dave closed his eyes for a second before speaking. “I know, Grandpa. I’m looking into it. Don’t worry. Just focus on getting better.”

At first, Dave had avoided the topic. He was afraid it might be too much for Lucas to handle.

But since Lucas brought it up himself, Dave knew he had to respond. Ignoring it would only make him worry more.

Even at his age, Lucas was sharp. He had always been ruthless and suspicious by nature.

“Okay,” Lucas said calmly. He took another sip of water and then looked at Dave. “Phoenix... Phoenix Alliance Group…”

Dave was taken aback. He didn’t think his grandfather would still be worried about Phoenix Alliance Group. Even though Lucas could barely speak, Dave already knew what he was about to say.

“Grandpa, I understand. Please rest. Don’t worry about anything. I’ll handle it.”

Lucas shook his head. He knew exactly how Dave was. He also knew Dave wouldn’t touch Evans Group’s money, not after cutting ties with them. Without that money, Dave had no backup.

Lucas started coughing again from the effort, but he still forced out his words. “Ahem… Evans Group’s money… You can…”

“I’ll use it if I have to,” Dave quickly interrupted him.

Dave had no plans to use Evans Group’s money, but he lied to calm Lucas down. He thought about promising to pay it back later but decided it wasn’t the right time.

Lucas seemed satisfied with his answer and went silent. Dave and Bianca quickly called for a nurse, and the doctor came soon after.

Brady noticed everything. He watched from a distance, feeling excited about what might be coming. It looked like Dave had told Lucas about Phoenix Alliance Group’s troubles. The old man’s reaction probably triggered another coughing fit. Brady secretly hoped he would just die.

A little while later, Dave stepped out of the room, looking serious.

Brady walked over quickly, putting on a concerned face. “What happened in there? Did you tell Lucas about Phoenix Alliance Group? What did he say?”

Seeing Brady’s eager face, Dave had to fight the urge to throw him into the ocean. Instead, he kept calm and nodded. “Yes, I told him. Grandpa was furious, but he agreed.”

Brady’s smile grew, though he tried to hide it. “That’s good. Don’t stress about Phoenix Alliance Group for now. Just focus on taking care of him.”

Then he changed the subject. “Did Lucas say how much he’s willing to put in to save Phoenix Alliance Group?”

Dave’s brow tightened slightly. “Evans Group’s funds are stretched right now. He can only give thirty billion dollars.”

Hearing that, Brady felt relieved. To take down the Evans Group, he had gambled everything; pouring all of Lawson Group’s assets into a short position in the stock market for Phoenix Alliance Group’s stocks. Now it seemed the Evans Group wasn’t as powerful as he had feared.

But then Dave looked up at him and said, “Grandpa also said we could sell some of the land the Evans family bought before. That alone could bring in over ninety billion.”

Brady froze. He hadn’t seen that coming. “What did you say?”

"Right now, we can raise up to one hundred and twenty billion dollars. That should be enough," Dave said calmly, his face unreadable. Every word he spoke was a calculated lie meant to trap Brady.

He had only one goal—Brady’s downfall.

Just moments earlier, Dave had received an urgent message from Wyatt as he stepped out of the hospital room.

“We’re late. Rachel’s doctor died in a car crash right after landing. Luckily, he had predicted that Brady wouldn’t stop digging, so he left a clue before he died.”

Wyatt had also sent him a photo of the wreckage from the crash.

“Most of his things were destroyed in the fire, but I found out he mailed some of his belongings to the hotel a few days ago. Since you’ve got shares there, I had the staff start searching. I’ll be there in thirty minutes. I’m sure there’s something off about Rachel’s death.”

When Dave looked into Brady’s eyes again, he saw a man doomed.

Brady’s face showed a flicker of surprise, but he quickly covered it with a calm smile.

“Well, that’s good news. So the Phoenix Alliance Group issue is handled. Just let me know when the funeral is. Since you’re in charge, you pick the time.”

Brady hadn’t expected the Evans family to have the money to save Phoenix Alliance Group. But he had a backup. Just before Dave showed up, a major international investor had offered him support on his own terms. The catch? Lawson Group had to pledge its shares and agree to 13% interest.

Back then, Brady was sure he would win. So he turned down the deal.

But now, he had no choice. He decided to borrow another twenty billion. This was his only shot to crush both Phoenix Alliance Group and Evans Group. He had spent too much time and money to walk away now.

Brady once thought taking down the Evans family would be easy. But now, he realized he was wrong. Their power ran deeper than he had guessed. For the first time, he felt a flicker of doubt.
