Accidentally Slept With The Ruthless Billionaire

Chapter 551: He’s Stable Now

Chapter 551: He’s Stable Now

Dave stood at the doorway. For the first time all night, he finally felt a bit of relief.

“He’s stable now. It was a very close call,” one doctor said. “Given Lucas’s age, we need to keep him calm from now on.”

Not far away, Bianca woke up slowly. She was wrapped in Dave’s coat.

When she heard that Lucas was stable, she stood up instantly. “That’s wonderful news!” she said, full of relief.

The doctors explained that because of Lucas’s age and weak condition, he might need to stay in the hospital for a long time to recover.

Dave had expected this. He nodded. “I understand. We’ll count on your care.”

“It’s the least we can do,” one of the doctors replied. “Lucas has always been kind to us.”

Dave and Bianca walked into the emergency room and finally saw Lucas lying there.

“Grandpa, I’m here. I know everything now. Please stay calm and focus on resting,” Dave said as he sat beside him, holding his hand.

Lucas looked tired and drained. He tried to speak, but no sound came out.

Instead, he lifted a finger and pointed toward Bianca, motioning for her to come closer.

“Lucas,” Bianca said softly to the old man lying in bed. All the bad feelings she once had toward him were gone. Now, all she wanted was for him to get better. “You’re going to be okay,” she whispered, gently holding his hand.

But then, Lucas reached out, took Dave’s hand, and placed it on top of hers. He didn’t say a word, but the message was clear.

Dave held Bianca’s hand tightly and looked at her with warmth. “I understand,” he said to his grandfather. “You’ve given us your blessing. Don’t worry, Grandpa. I’ll make sure the Evans Group stays strong.”

Lucas nodded slightly, eyes still closed.

Sometimes, life brings moments that go beyond what we expect. At that moment, the distance between grandfather and grandson quietly faded. In the face of life and death, nothing else mattered more.

Some people were willing to sacrifice others in the name of their beliefs. Maybe Dave’s grandfather had been that kind of man—someone who would do anything to reach his goals.

But Dave wasn’t like that. If someone dared to hurt his family, he’d drag them down with him, even if it meant going through hell.

The hospital transfer went smoothly.

The only issue was Brady insisting on going with Dave.

Dave didn’t mention that Lucas had already regained consciousness.

But since the hospital belonged to Brady, he found out soon enough.

“Dave, why didn’t you tell me Lucas woke up?” Brady asked, staring at him. His face looked pale, and he could barely stand. “By the way, now that Rachel’s gone, I need to speak with him about the funeral arrangements.”

Dave looked at Brady, clearly annoyed. What was he trying to pull? Did he really want to upset Grandpa again?

“Grandpa already told me to handle the funeral,” Dave said firmly. “You want to talk to him about this now? Do you want him to collapse again?”

“I didn’t mean that,” Brady said quickly.

“I didn’t… I’m just… I’m panicking, okay? Rachel was my wife. No one is more heartbroken than I am,” he added, trying to sound pitiful. “Everyone knows she was Lucas’s favorite. I can’t make any decisions about her burial without his approval. I need to ask.”

He paused for a moment, then sighed. “This is all my fault. I was too careless last night. I didn’t expect Lucas would get so worked up. I won’t push to see him again… but I don’t want to leave either. I just want to stay close and pray he recovers quickly. Evans Group can’t go a day without a leader. Since he’s unable to manage things now, I’m willing to take over and do my part.”

Dave was furious when he heard that, but he held back his anger.

Brady had really planned this well.

If Wyatt hadn’t found out about the deal between Skylar and Brady, Brady might’ve gotten what he wanted.

If he ever got control of the Evans Group, it wouldn’t take long before everything collapsed.

“No, thanks. I’ve got my own plans,” Dave said as he patted Brady’s shoulder. “But you’re right about one thing—it’s better if you stay here. Just don’t go near Grandpa. That’s what the doctors said. I’m worried he’ll think of Aunt Rachel and break down again if he sees you.”

Brady wanted to keep an eye on Dave.

But Dave also had no plans of letting Brady out of his sight.

He had already taken care of things with Phoenix Alliance Group, so there was nothing to worry about there.

Soon, he would move Grandpa to the Evans Hospital. But before that, there was something he needed to confirm.

Looking straight at Brady, Dave asked, “By the way, how did Aunt Rachel die? Can you show me the hospital’s surveillance footage?”

Brady froze for a moment, then forced a smile.

He had expected this. He didn’t think Dave would actually dig this deep.

He had underestimated him but he had prepared for it.

“It’s all my fault,” Brady said with a fake sigh. “I can take you there, but I won’t watch it with you.”

Dave didn’t respond.

He simply pulled Bianca aside and told her secretly, “Be careful with Brady. Don’t let your guard down.”

“You need to calm down, Dave,” Bianca said, her voice full of concern.

“I will,” he replied, giving her a reassuring nod.

After saying goodbye to her, Dave followed Brady to the hospital’s surveillance room.

Wyatt had actually shown up the night before, but Bianca was already fast asleep by then. Still, he gave a report of what he found. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.

Dave, however, wasn’t convinced. He wanted to see things for himself. Wyatt didn’t know Rachel well, and Dave believed he might be able to uncover something Wyatt had missed.

“See it for yourself. I just can’t stand watching the look on her face again,” Brady said, still putting on his act of concern.

In the footage, Rachel was lying in her hospital bed, clearly in distress. The surveillance didn’t include any audio, but even so, Dave could almost hear her cries of pain.

“It hurts so much! My head feels like it’s about to explode.”

Dave pinched the bridge of his nose, forcing himself to keep watching despite the heavy sadness weighing on him.
